One Level Less

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

The tournament director has just informed us that they are cutting the day by one level, meaning we will complete the remainder of this level and the next before bagging up for the night.

This is due to the astonishing rate at which the players have busted out. We started the day with 421 and at a last count we only have 130 in their seats! Amazing stuff!

Linton Can’t Win ‘Em All

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Pete Linton likes to make his presence felt at the table. He plays a lot of hands and you tangle with him at your peril. But it doesn’t always go his way.

Linton raised to 23,000 from the hi-jack and was raised from the button to 77,000. Linton flicked in his cards and addressed the raiser.

“Nice hand sir. Seventy seven gets the job done in these parts. At least until it doesn’t.” He stated, putting the table on a warning.

The next hand he called a raise of 22,000 in position and with the blinds getting out of the way it was heads up to the flop of {j-Clubs} {3-Spades} {8-Clubs}

The raiser bet 22,000 and Linton called. The turn brought the {2-Diamonds} and again the bet was 22,000 to Linton. Again he called.

The last card was the {A-Diamonds} the bet again was 22,000.

Linton sighed. He didn’t like that call but it looked too cheap not to call so out went the chips.

His opponent showed {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for top pair and Linton’s cards arched over the pot and into the muck.

Deeb Heading Upwards

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb

Despite the fact we've lost over 300 players today, there are still several big names in the event. One of the most well known is Freddy Deeb who has two WPT titles and two WSOP bracelets to his name.

Deeb has just added to his stack after his {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} held against a short-stack's {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} on a {10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} board to put him over the 400,000 mark.

Morgan and Linton in Battle of the Blinds

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Dan Morgan and Pete Linton have been seated next to each other for a large part of today so a battle of the blinds was inevitable.

Morgan open-limped the small blind, Linton raise only to see Morgan make it 42,000 to go. Linton re-raised to 83,000 and Morgan mucked his hand, giving a wry smile as he restacked his chips into stacks of 20.

Marques Puts the Squeeze on Albiges

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Having been told they are playing the last level of the night, Florent Marques is not particularly happy. He would play all night if he was allowed to he told the table.

Sam Trickett opened in early position for 16,000 and was called by Benoit Albiges in the cut-off. Florent Marques decided this would be a good time for a squeeze and moved all in for 109,000 from the small blind.

The big blind got out of the way and Trickett folded pretty quickly, but Albiges looked like he had a genuine decision.

In the end, perhaps regretting the call in the first place, he threw the hand away.

Mat Not Floored

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Mat Frankland
Mat Frankland

The ginger-bearded assassin is at it again. Mat Frankland is up to 800,000 after he min-raised from the button to 16,000 and then called the big blind's shove for 160,000. Frankland showed {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} to dominate the short stack's {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} despite a board of {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} giving him a scare or two.

Choffray Folds Top Pair

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

On a board of {6-Spades} {q-Spades} {a-Hearts} {5-Hearts} Christophe Jean Choffray bet 24,000.

Immediately to his left sat Marius Pospiech who moved all-in over the top of his bet for a total of 135,000, more than covering Choffray’s stack.

It took several minutes for Choffray to release his hand, and when he did he wanted his opponent and the table to see what he had.

Face up on the table was the now unwanted {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs}

Sandhu Gets Trodd On

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Amy Trodd
Amy Trodd

Back to back double-ups for Amy Trodd as she has found a bit of help from some cowboys.

Firstly, she opened to 17,000 and was called by Angelo D'Onfrio before Sebastian Muller squeezed to 45,000. Satnam Sandhu flat-called out of the big blind and Trodd reraised all in for 109,000 more.

D'Onfrio and Muller both folded but Sandhu couldn't let his hand go and made the call.

Sandhu: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Trodd: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Trodd doubled up. Soon after she took even more chips from Sandhu, holding kings again on the turn of a board that had a five and two spades on. Sandhu held {5-Spades}{2-Spades} but missed the river as Trodd added even more to her stack.
