Edward Sabat Eliminated

Edward Sabat - Eliminated
Edward Sabat - Eliminated
Just before the break, Edward Sabat became involved in a pot for his tournament life.

Under the gun, he limped into the pot and he and both the small and big blind went to the flop. It brought {A-?} {J-?} {10-?} with two diamonds. Action was checked to Sabat, and he pushed out a small bet of 6,000. The small blind called, and it was heads up to the turn.

Fourth street was the {5-Spades}. This time, the small blind led out with a bet of 7,000, prompting Sabat to move all in for 60,000. Instantly, his opponent made the call, flipping up {3-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}. Sabat confidently tabled {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}.

Trouble found Sabat on the river though. The {8-Diamonds} peeled off, making his opponent a diamond flush and sending Sabat to the exit a touch earlier than he would have liked.

Bo Knows Poker

From middle position, Ferrero Fulvio opened with a min-raise to 10,000. Bo Sehlstedt called from the small blind, as did the big blind, and it was three-handed to the flop.

It showed up {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {2-Spades}, and all three men checked.

The turn brought the {Q-Clubs}. Sehlstedt announced, "All in," and moved his stack of 47,100 forward. The big blind ducked out, and action was back on Fulvio. He went into the tank for a couple minutes, counting out his chips and looking distraught. Finally, he stacked his chips, shrugged his shoulders and made the call, putting himself all in for his last 32,700.

Sehlstedt: {A-Clubs} {6-Clubs}
Fulvio: {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}

Fulvio needed to dodge all the clubs and aces left in the deck to stay alive, and the {8-Spades} on the river was a safe card for him. He more than doubled up, climbing to 98,000 while Sehlstedt was crippled all the way down to just 15,000.

The Rich Get Richer

Alexandre Gomes has been chipping up by leaps and bounds tonight. He is the big chip leader, and we pick up the action at his table with him involved in another big pot.

Gomes had raised preflop and was called by the player in the big blind. The flop came out {J-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}. Action checked to the raiser, and Gomes obliged with a bet of 17,200. His opponent check-raised all in for about 160,000 and Gomes made an immediate call. He turned over {K-Spades} {J-Hearts} and clapped his hands in jubilation when his opponent tabled {9-Spades} {9-Diamonds}.

The turn and river were blanks -- {2-Hearts} and {4-Spades} -- and Gomes needed two arms to drag all those chips toward him. With that pot, he has increased his chip lead by a big margin, and he now sits with more than 450,000.

Play Resumes

The players have returned from dinner, the clock is rolling, and the cards are in the air once again. We will play until we lose 15 more players tonight.

The Happiest Bust-Out Yet

Humberto Brenes was just moved to the featured table, and he ended up in the seat that had previously been occupied by Greg Raymer.

It ended up working out the same for both men.

Action folded around to Humberto in the small blind, and he raised to 14,000. Alexandre Gomes was the only one left to get past, but he moved all in, having Humberto well-covered. Brenes made the call, and the two PokerStars pros butted heads for a big pot.

Brenes: {A-?} {5-?}
Gomes: {A-?} {J-?}

The board failed to provide any help for Humberto Brenes, bricking off completely, and he simply shrugged and lamented, "Ace and ace in the blinds, what can I do?" in his happy-go-lucky tone. He gave Gomes a big hug and headed for the rail, smiling all the way.

After knocking out his partner and raking in that pot, Alexandre Gomes is now our big chip leader, up dangerously close to 300,000.

Chop the Payout?

As Jamal Kunbuz was in the process of busting, action was still in progress at another table with a player all in.

The betting folded all the way around to the blinds, where Carter Gill looked down at {K-Diamonds} {5-Clubs}. He decided to ship it in for about 60,000 with only one player to act behind him. That player, however, squeezed out {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} and made the call, having Gill slightly covered. At this point, Kunbuz had already been eliminated, and if Gill couldn't catch up, he and Kunbuz would share the last payout spot.

No need for that though. The flop revealed {2-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {K-Hearts}, vaulting Gill into the lead. The turn was the {A-Spades} and the river came the {2-Clubs}. Carter Gill came charging back from behind to scoop a monster pot and cripple his opponent. He is now up to 125,000 chips, and doesn't have to worry about splitting a payout spot with anyone.
