Rousso in the Tank

Vanessa Rousso raised from early position, making it 3,000 to dance. Action passed all the way around to the blinds, where the small blind, as well as the big blind, Alejandro Rodriguez, came along to the flop.

It brought {A-Clubs} {4-Spades} {4-Hearts}, and all three players checked.

The turn came the {7-Diamonds}. The small blind checked, and Rodriguez led out with a bet of 3,000. Rousso fingered her yellow chips before putting in a small raise to 7,000. Rodriguez counted out his chips before calling, and it was heads up to fifth.

River: {2-Clubs}. Immediately, Rodriguez moved all in for 24,500, just barely covered by his opponent. Rousso went deep into the tank.

"I have a good hand. I have a very good hand," she said. "Why would you bet so big if you had a good hand? Why not value bet?" she prodded. Rodriguez smiled, stood up and walked away, only to return a couple minutes later, with Rousso still tanking. After six or seven minutes, Rousso reluctantly folded, choosing to risk her tournament life on a future hand instead. She is down to around 28,000 chips.

Double Double

Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon
Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon
If one double up is good, two double ups have to be better. Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon began the day with just over 22,000 in chips, and he was the recipient of an early double up.

A bit later on, we picked up the action at his table, where he came in raising from the cutoff seat, making it 4,800 to play. Action passed to chip leader Jorge Gonzalez in the big blind, and he decided to pay to see a flop.

Heads up, the two men watched the dealer spread out {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {4-Spades}. Gonzalez checked, and Kroon bet out 10,000. On a check-raise, Gonzalez came over the top for 45,000, and Kroon quickly moved all in. The cards were turned over:

Gonzalez: {6-Hearts} {9-Hearts}
Kroon: {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}

When he saw his opponent's hand, Kroon stood up and walked away, shouting, "Hold up! Make me the chip leader!" The turn and river came {K-Spades} and {5-Diamonds} respectively, and Kroon tallied his second double up in the first half hour.

Well, almost a double up. There was a bit of controversy when Gonzalez realized that he had about 7,000 more chips behind the 45,000. It was apparent that Kroon was all in, but the language barrier between the dealer and players resulted in some fuzzy recollections of the betting action. The floor was called over, and the decision was made to award Kroon only the 45,000 that Gonzalez had explicitly put in the pot.

After dragging in those chips, Kroon has moved up over the century mark, sitting with about 110,000.

Daily Double

Vanessa Rousso All In
Vanessa Rousso All In
The action is already starting off fast this morning as the short stacks look to notch an early double up. One such short stack is Vanessa Rousso. Within the first few hands of action, she found herself all in before the flop for around 11,000 chips, holding {9-?} {9-?}. She got action from Michael Catlin, calling her down with {7-?} {7-?}.

The board ran out safe for Rousso: {K-?} {A-?} {10-?} {8-?} {6-?}, and Rousso moves back up close to 25,000 in the early going.
