Dion Now Gone

Yann Dion eliminated
Yann Dion eliminated

Yann Dion did well to build his chip stack throughout the day to a high point of about 150,000. Unfortunately for him, they've all been dusted off as he's been eliminated from action.

Paulo Rink: From Scoring Goals to Stacking Chips

Paulo Rink
Paulo Rink

On the flop of {K-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}, there was a sizable three-way pot that had developed and Ademir Strechar checked to Paulo Rink. Rink bet 2,400 and then the next player raised to 8,900. Strechar called and then Rink went into the tank. Eventually, he moved all in for about 40,000 total. Both his opponents folded and Rink scooped in the chips to move his stack to about 110,000.

Rink may not be known for his prowess on the felt quite yet, but more so for his skill on the pitch. Rink is a retired Brazilian-born German football (or soccer for us Americans) forward who gave up professional play in 2007.

Atletico Paranaense of the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A league was the club where Rink got his start before moving to the German team Bayer Leverkusen. He was transferred to the team for the hefty sum of $6 million USD, which up until that point, no one had been transferred from Atletico Paranaense for that sum of money.

Although he spent four years from 1997-2001, scoring 29 goals with Bayer Leverkusen in 88 appearances, Rink played for numerous other clubs. Nuremberg, Energie Cottbus, Olympiakos Nicosia, Vitesse, Jeonbuk, Olympiakos Nicosia, Omonia Nicosia and Atletico-PR were all stints for him following Bayer Leverkusen. Out of that latter group, Rink made the most appearances with Olympiakos Nicosia (21) and scored the most goals with Omonia Nicosia (23).

Outside of club play, Rink earned 13 international caps between 1998 and 2000 with the German national team. Rink was a naturalized German citizen due to his great-grandfather emigrating from Germany to Brazil in 1904, and became the first Brazilian to play for Germany. Although he didn't score any goals with that team, Rink has 98 career goals on his resume.

It is said that Rink can't even walk the streets of Germany without being mauled by fans. That's not the case quite yet here within the poker world, but a big win at LAPT Florianopolis could surely change all that.

Vamo Filho! Bustos Busted by Baptista

Claudio Baptista opened with a raise from the cutoff, only to have Said Kamle Bustos move all in from the big blind for 46,400. Baptista instantly called for his last 39,200 to take us to a showdown.

Bustos: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Baptista: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

"Vamo filho! Vamo filho! Vamo filho!" Baptista kept screaming over and over as the dealer spread the {7-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} board to see Baptista double to over 84,000 while Bustos was left crippled with just 7,200.

The following hand, Baptista opened to 6,000 from the hijack and Bustos committed his last 7,200 from the small blind as Baptista made up the additional amount.

Bustos: {A-Spades}{6-Spades}
Baptista: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

Although the flop brought a sweat, the final board of {J-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs} would see Baptista finish off Bustos, while continuing - once again - to scream "Vamo filho!"

Informed by fellow media members, the term Vamo Filho translates to "Let's go baby!" when used at the poker table.

Dion Doubles Azocar

From under the gun, Yann Dion raised to 4,300. Action then folded around to the cutoff seat where Francisco Azocar was positioned. Azocar raised all in for 27,800 and Dion quickly made the call once action got back over to him. He held the {A-Spades}{J-Spades} and was flipping with the {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} of Azocar.

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Azocar stole some outs from Dion with his club draw. The turn brought the {3-Spades} and then the river completed the board with the {4-Diamonds}.

Azocar earned the double up to over 55,000 while Dion dropped to 107,000.

Austin Doubles

With the action on Brady Austin in the cutoff, he moved all in for his last 19,000 and was called by the big blind.

Austin: {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The board ran out {K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds} to see Austin find a rivered pair to move to 42,000 in chips.
