Filling in the blanks

We've managed to fill in the blanks on how Aaron Lerner was eliminated. He was on 5,500 when he moved all-in from UTG with pocket queens. He was looked up by one player holding ace-jack. An ace arrived at the cruelest of places; the river.

Speedy Gonzalez

Argentinian Jose Gonzalez wasted no time getting it in with the third nuts on a {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop. One short stack had moved all-in with {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for top pair, top kicker and the nut flush draw. Unfortunately for him Gonzalex has flopped the idiot end of the straight with {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. His 60,000 shove may have chased out some value but as it happens the turn and river chopped the pot with a runner-runner straight anyway.

Mexican suck -outs

Team PokerStars Mexico’s Christian De Leòn thought he’d managed to double-up his short stack after finding a three-outer on a flop but a cruel river has eliminated him. He moved all-in pre flop with ace-jack and was called by an opponent holding pocket queens. In a tale very similar to teammate Angel Guillen he sucked out when he flopped two pair on a {a-}{j-}{6-} flop. All was still looking good on the {3-} turn but the river came {q-} for a re-suck-out two outer.

Barbero swings and passes

Jose 'Nacho' Barbero had started as the preflop aggressor with a raise to 1,100 and after picking up 3 callers decided to continue with that aggression on the flop. Barbero bet 3,100 into the {6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop but had to release when check-raised to 8,100. He didn't look happy to let it go but still has around 24,000.

Can you see a red cap? No, sir

We can't and that means that Dennis Phillips has gone busto. The Team pokerStars Pro and his famous red hat won't be featuring at the final table. He had had several tussles with Daniela Zapiello but this one proved tp be his last. Holding {k-}{q-} on a queen-high flop. Unfortunately Zapiello flopped trip jacks and that was the end of Phillips.

Payouts

The payout structure has been released. A total of 48 players will get paid with the lowest getting $4,460 all the way up to a huge $250,000 for first. Those players who make the final table on Saturday will be guaranteed $18,600 for their efforts. For a full breakdown please check out the payouts tab.

A man cannot live on optimism alone

While Aaron Lerner's never-say-die mindset should be applauded unfortunately it's not enough to survive on in tournament poker. We missed the grisly end but the short stack is no more and was last seen walking away from the tournament floor checking whether he could get a flight direct to Las Vegas tonight.

Lerner down but not depressed

'I'll be on 100,000 by the end of the day.' They're not the words you really expect from someone with just 6,000 to their name but Aaron Lerner certainly has the chance to realise his ambition. He's on a table deep in chips with big stacks Luis Carlos Hernandez and Michael Piper both to his right. A double up here on there puts him in the position to start gathering chips again. Just as long as he can get some in the first place.

Jonathan Crute is someone that isn't going to be on 100,000, or in fact 1,000, by the end of the day. The young Brit got it all-in with top two against bottom set and failed to spike his four outer.

Guillen finds an Angel before the devil arrives

Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen has been eliminated by Mario Quintanilha after a suck-out re-suck-out scenario. Both saw a {7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Spades} before all the chips went in. Guillen held king-ten to his opponent's eight-ten. The Mexican took the lead on the {k-Diamonds} turn but Quintanilha snatched it back again on the {8-Clubs} river. Quintanilha ran off celebrating loudly whereas quietly made his exit.
