Season 3 of the LAPT continued today with Day 2 of the Grand Final at the City Center Casino in Rosario, Argentina. Approximately 130 players returned at the start of the day in the hopes of making it to the money and competing for their share of the $1,176,200 prize pool.
Nicolas “PKaiser” Fierro began as the chip leader with 278,200 and remained as such throughout much of the day; however, when action stopped he was left with just over 100,000. PokerStars had numerous Team Pros return for their shot at the title, but few could survive. Leo Fernandez, Veronica Dabul, Maria Mayrinck, Dennis Phillips and Christian De Leòn all hit the rail. Likewise, Jose "Nacho" Barbero's hope of winning his third LAPT title came to an end just shy of the money. On the other hand, Barbero's fellow South American teammate, Andre Akkari, managed to squeeze into the money in 38th place.
While many fell, others thrived. Terrence Chan will return to Day 3, as will Angel Guillen, the sole remaining member of Team PokerStars Pro. Matthias Habernig will be going for back-to-back LAPT titles. Joining them will be some serious contenders including Jose Guevara, Mario Niciforo, Freddy Tores, and our chip leader with 346,000, Francisco de Belaustegui.
The final 24 players at the LAPT Grand Final will return at 12:00 ARG and play to the final table. Join PokerNews then for up-to-the-mintue new, chip counts and eliminations!
Action heated up at all four tables simultaneously and resulted in some big shake ups. Nicolas Fierro Gottner, the chip leader throughout much of the day, lost the lion's share of his chips and is left with right around 105,000.
The action also saw yet another elimination in Robby Westrom, which brings us down to 24; as such, action has been halted and players are currently bagging their chips.
Action has slowed considering one more elimination will bring about the end of the day. In a recent hand, a player in the cutoff raised to 16,000 only to have the chip leader, Nicolas Fierro Gottner, reraise to 40,000 from the button.
When action got back to the cutoff, he moved all in for 92,000 more. Gottner went into the tank over the decision. He certainly had the chips to call, but he would be crippled if he lost. After taking a quick inventory of his own stack, he slowly slid his cards into the muck. His stack also slid to 360,000.

By now, players should no better than to try to bluff Terrence Chan (or to challenge PokerNews bloggers to further butcher their names). He moved to a new table shortly after his earlier king-high call down. This time, Fredy Torres opened the hijack to 8,500, and Chan defended his big blind.
Flop: - Chan checked, and Torres checked behind.
Turn: - Chan bet out 18,000, and Torres called.
River: - Chan bet 28,000, and Torres mini-raised to 60,000. Chan counted his stack quickly before announcing a call. Torres turned up for ace-high, while Chan's for the second nut-flush was plenty good enough to win the pot. He moved up to 258,000. Torres slipped to 155,000.
Level: 17
Blinds: 3,000/6,000
Ante: 500
Action folded to Angel Guillen on the button and he simply limped which seemed to draw suspicion from the table. "Mix it up," he explained.
Fredy Torres proceeded to make the call from the small blind while Matthias Habernig checked his option from the big. Both blinds then checked the flop and Guillen bet 8,000. His opponents folded fairly quickly and Habernig joked, "Limping the aces on the button."
"I wish," Guillen quipped as he pulled in the small pot.
Matias Ruzzi limped under-the-gun, and Robby Westrom limped behind. Then Carlos Perez made a sizable raise on the button. Ruzzi and Westrom both paid the price to see the flop. Ruzzi checked, and Westrom bet 26,000. It didn't take long for Perez to announce all in. Ruzzi mucked, and Westrom studied his stack, looking confused. It would be another 57,000 for him to call. Finally, he folded, and Perez let out a whoop of victory. He didn't show, however, as he took down the pot.
