Watanabe Forced to Fold

Carlos Watanabe
Carlos Watanabe

We haven't had much action since moving to one table left in play, but here's something for your reading eyes.

From middle position, Carlos Watanabe raised to 75,000. Action then folded to Engelberth Varela in the big blind and he reraised all in for over a million in chips. Varela had Watanabe well covered for his 500,000 or so. Watanabe took a minute to think and then mucked his hand, dropped back to 430,000 on chips.

This may be Watanabe's first LAPT cash, but it's not his first deep run in a PokerStars-sponsored tournament. In November 2010, Watanabe placed 15th out of 701 players in the NAPT Los Angeles Main Event. For that finish he earned $21,000. In order to get a larger sum of money here, Watanabe will have to finish in seventh place or higher. Right now, he's doing what he can to stay alive, albeit at the bottom of the pack. Still, he's just one double up from being right back in the middle of things.

Andrey Tsitovich began the day second in chips and in the second-to-last player to hit the rail before we reach the official final table here in Punt del Este.

Tsitovich raised from under the gun to 48,000 and action folded to Alex Komaromi in the big blind. He reraised to 116,000 and then Tsitovich moved all in for about 875,000 in chips. Komaromi called holding the {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Tsitovich held the {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

Tsitovich was unable to find any help as the board ran out {J-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}{J-Hearts} and he was eliminated in 10th place. Tsitovich took home $12,700 as the players are now redrawing to one final table of nine before play resumes.

Break

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

The final 12 players are on another 15-minute break. Things have been fast and furious down to the final 12, but the tournament seems to be at a standstill for now until we can lose a few more. The final table is within everyone's reach and they can surely feel it.
