There was just a bit of controversy over on the table on the featured stage involving Alejandro Federico de Arruabarrena and Fernando Araujo.
When we got to the table, Araujo was yelling to his rail about how he was all in with aces versus kings. The two hands, Araujo's and Arruabarrena's , were tabled and the dealer had yet to run the board. Araujo was nervous as he was the player all in and Arruabarrena called for a king.
The dealer then ran the board and Araujo doubled up, but there is where things got confusing.
The dealer told Arruabarrena that Araujo's all-in bet was worth 83,000. Arruabarrena argued that he never actually made the call of the all-in bet. The floor was called and an attempt to explain what happened occurred, but there were a few different versions given to the floor staff by various players at the table. It was explained that Araujo raised to 24,000 and then Arruabarrena reraised to 74,000. Action folded back to Araujo and he moved all in for 83,000. Then, he tabled his hand and revealed the aces. Arruabarrena argued that he never exactly said "call," but tabled his hand anyway before the dealer then ran out the board. Arruabarrena argued that because he didn't say call, he should only owe 74,000 and not the full 83,000.
Finally, tournament director Mike Ward was summoned and when he got to the scene the action was explained to him once again. After the explanations were heard, Arruabarrena was then asked by Ward if he would like to call or fold, for the extra 9,000. He said that he would fold and because of this answer, only had to pay 74,000 to Araujo. Ward said that if he were to say call, he would have instructed the dealer to run a new turn and river.
Action folded to Cassio Kiles on the button and he raised to 26,000. From the small blind, Andrey Tsitovich reraised to 62,000. The big blind folded and then Kiles four-bet to 123,000. Tsitovich gave it up and Kiles won the pot.
After Martin Fuentes opened with a raise, Rafael Monteiro three-bet from the next seat. Fuentes re-raised all in for about 200,000 and Monteiro called with .
Fuentes had him dominated with , but the board ran out to give Monteiro a set of sixes to score the elimination.
Max Stern moved all in for 87,000 under the gun and found action from Nicasio Toranzo on the button.
Stern:
Toranzo:
The board ran out , pairing Toranzo's ace and ending Stern's run in 21st place.
At least now he can go off with his wife, Maria, to continue celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary as he shares with Lynn Gilmartin before play began:
After Oded Minond opened to 27,000, Olaru Narcis Cristian got his stack of 96,000 into the middle with . Minond called with and paired his ace on the flop as it came down , but Cristian hit his set as well. The turn and river locked up the double for Cristian.
From early position, Engelberth Varela raised to 21,000. Martin Fuentes moved all in for approximately 140,000 from middle position and then action folded to PokerStars qualifier Gabriel Gomes in the big blind. He called all in for 22,000 and Varela folded.
Gomes held the and was in a race for his tournament life against the that Fuentes held. The board ran out to give Fuentes a straight on the river and send Gomes out the door.
Action folded to Juan Jose Perez on the button and he exhibited some late-position aggression with a raise to 21,000. Martin Fuentes flatted from the small blind and then Rafael Monteiro three-bet to 63,000 from the big blind. Perez could have thought Monteiro was just making a squeeze play as he then four-bet to 151,000. After Fuentes folded, Monteiro moved all in for about 475,000 total. Perez mucked and Monteiro won the pot.
To say that Nicasio Toranzo has been the most active player here in the first level of Day 3 would be an understatement. He's been in almost every pot and often involved in any all-in situation at his table. Well, here's another one, but this time it didn't go his way.
Action folded to Toranzo on the button and he raised. In the big blind, Felipe Pasini reraised and Toranzo called to see the flop, which produced the . Pasini bet 80,000 and Toranzo raised all in. Pasini called off for 175,000 total and tabled the . He was in front of the for Toranzo and looking to double up.
The turn brought the and the river the . Toranzo sent over the chips to Pasini, doubling him up and moving him to 440,000.
