Serva Gets Paid

Level 2 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

In a battle of the blinds, Joris Serva raised to 1,600 and Jason Shellum defended.

The K54 flop was checked to the 10 turn, where Serva fired out a bet of 2,000.

Shellum called to see the 2 river, where Serva went for a pot-sized bet of 7,600. Shellum quickly called, and mucked just as speedily when Serva revealed KQ for top pair.

Antonino Scarpaci limped from under the gun, before Dor Adda raised to 2,200 from the cutoff. Gary Whitehead called in the big blind, as did Scarpaci.

The AJ10 flop and K turn were checked to the 5 river, where action was checked to Adda. He put 3,500 chips into the middle, and while Whitehead got out of the way, Scarpaci called.

Adda tabled AK for two pair, and Scarpaci mucked.

Dor Adda opened to 700 from the button, and received calls from Mark Harrison and Lisa Roberts in the blinds.

Action was checked to Adda on the 10102 flop, who continued with a bet of 1,100.

Only Roberts called to see the K turn, where the same pattern followed in respect of a double-barrel of 2,200 from Adda.

The 4 river completed the board, and Roberts changed approach, leading out with a bet of 3,000.

Adda smiled wryly and reluctantly flicked in a calling chip, and promptly mucked when Roberts tabled KQ for two pair.

Bone Gets Sticky

Level 1 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante

Anthony Bone opened to 700 from the button, and was faced with a three-bet to 1,800 from Darren Smith in the big blind.

Bone called to see the K96 flop, where Smith checked. Bone fired out a bet of 2,600, which failed to dispose of Smith.

The 4 turn was checked to the 5 river, where Smith checked for a third time. Bone slid out a bet of 4,100, and Smith called after a bit of thought.

"Ace-king is good if you've got it", ventured Smith, and he was surprised when Bone tabled 65 for the rivered two pair.

"Wow, I reraised you pre" said the bemused Smith, as he mucked, allowing Bone to rake in a decent early pot.

The Malta Poker Festival Spring Edition has grown to be a mainstay of the European poker calendar since its inception in 2018, and poker players from far and wide will return to the stunning Portomaso Casino this week for the 2026 iteration.

The highlight of the festival is the €600 Grand Event, which sports a huge €500,000 guarantee, eclipsing the €300,000 guarantee offered 12 months ago. The action is already well underway, and PokerNews will be joining the fray at the start of Day 1d, which kicks off at 2 p.m. local time.

Mathieu Ikhlef of France (1,012,500) is in pole position after the initial starting flights, leading 25 qualifiers from 215 entrants, with the current top ten counts detailed below.
