Day 1b of the 2023 Merit Poker Gangster Series $3,300 Main Event here at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino is set to kick off today at noon local time. Russia's Aleksei Petrov leads the way from the first starting flight, finishing Day 1a with an impressive 766,000 chips. A new group of contenders will try to replicate that success in today's Day 1b flight.

Other notables to survive yesterday's Day 1a include Adem Marjanovic (525,000), Selahaddin Bedir (430,500), Victor Yugay (279,000), Yunsheng Sun (267,500), Matthew Davenport (255,000) and Merit Poker regulars Anton Markov (170,000) and Koray Korkmaz (154,000).

Day 1b will feature the same structure as yesterday's Day 1a. Players will start with 100,000 chips and play nine 60-minute levels. There will be a break after every two levels. Unlimited reentries and late registration will be available until the end of Level 14 on Day 2.

Those who bag and tag at the end of the night will join the survivors from yesterday's flight in advancing to Day 2 on December 1. Before that, there will be two more starting flights, with Day 1c beginning at noon local time on November 30 and a turbo Day 1d set to begin at 7:30 p.m. the same day.

Day 1a attracted a total of 155 entrants vying to take home the title and lion's share of the $1,500,000 guaranteed prize pool. That number is expected to grow substantially starting today, with three more starting flights left to go. Oleg Netaliev opened to 1,000 from under the gun and received calls from Mohamad El Siblani in early position and Antoine Labaky in the hijack.

The flop came J72 and Netaliev fired a 2,500 continuation bet. El Siblani called while Labaky got out of the way.

El Siblani called another bet from Netaliev on the 3 turn, this time for 7,500.

The river was the 9. Netaliev bet a third time for 15,000 and El Siblani made the call.

Netaliev tabled AJ for top pair, top kicker.

"Very nice hand" El Siblani told his opponent as he sent his hand into the muck allowing Netaliev to take down a sizable early pot.

Sibgatova Takes One Early

Aleksandr Pak opened to 1,200 from the hijack and Alisa Sibgatova called from the cutoff.

The flop came 974 and Sibgatova called a 1,500 continuation bet from Pak.

Sibgatova called a second barrel from Pak on the 3 turn, this time for 6,200.

Pak slowed down with a check on the 6 river and Sibgatova bet 12,000, forcing a fold from her opponent.

Benjamin Hamnett opened to 1,200 from early position and Parahat Nurmuhammedov three-bet to 3,700 from middle position. Hamnett made the call.

Both players checked the A1010 flop leading to the J turn. Hamnett bet 1,600 and Nurmuhammedov called.

Both players checked the J river. Hamnett showed down QQ for pocket queens but Nurmuhammedov tabled KK for pocket kings to take the pot.

Korochenskiy Gets Paid with Straight Flush

Level 2 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Oladele Kupoluyi opened to 1,900 from udner the gun and received calls from Bakhos Joumaa on the button, Guoliang Wei in the small blind and Anatoly Korochenskiy in the big blind.

"No respect you guys. No respect" Kupoluyi joked as the flop was dealt.

All four players checked the flop and turn leading to a final board of 543K5. Wei bet 2,500, Kupoluyi raised to 7,200, Kupoluyi and Joumaa got out of the wahy and Wei made the call.

Kupoluyi tabled A2 for a five-high straight flush and Wei's hand hit the muck.
