Big Stack Wars

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Two of the biggest stacks in the tournament were tangled up in a hand with the {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop cards already dealt and 32,000 in the middle.

Umberan Akhtar was sat on the button with a 20,000 bet in front and Edgar Drozdov had raised it to 61,000. Akhtar handed the dealer his two remaining time bank cards and stood up whilst deliberating what to do.

"I have six-three" he said when he was halfway through his time. "Why would you do that with a flush draw?" he asked Drozdov, who gave no reply. He ultimately decided to fold but did indeed have six-three, which he flashed to the table. Drozdov didn't reciprocate, sending his cards into the muck.

Silverman Doubles Through Sohel

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

It's been a rollercoaster of a ride for Daniel Silverman today but currently is on an upward trend. He and Mohammed Sohel were facing a {7-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop and there was 22,000 in the middle. Sohel was in early position and first to act, betting 8,000. Silverman called on the cutoff and they saw a {a-Diamonds} pair the board on the turn.

Sohel barreled for 16,000 and Silverman peeled again. The last card out paired the board again with the {k-Spades} and Sohel set his opponent all in. "I think I may be buying in again," said Silverman as he made the call. It wasn't the case though, with his {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} good against Sohel's {j-Spades}{10-Hearts} bluff.

Kassa Out to Matei

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The fast structure continues to pressure the shorter stacks and Getnet Kassa is the latest player to find himself heading for the door.

He moved all in for ten big blinds over a late position limp from Dante Matei, who called. When the cards were turned over, the two players were racing, with Kassa the one who needed to hit.

Dante Matei: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Getnet Kassa: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The runout favored the pocket pair and Kassa is out, but not for long by the looks of it as he is heading in the direction of the registration desk.

Siabi Triples at a Cost to Martin and Patel

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Parviz Siabi was nursing a short stack and moved all in from middle position for around 11,000. Jay Patel opted to call on the button and the action came to Benjamin Martin who went all in over the top. It was enough to persuade Patel to lay it down and the two players turned over their cards.

Parviz Siabi: {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Benjamin Martin: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Siabi was drawing thin, that was until he connected with the {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Spades} flop. There was no turning things around for Martin on the {10-Hearts} turn or {7-Hearts} river and Siabi got the triple up he needed, taking him up over starting stack.

Rahman Finds a Double

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Things have not been going smoothly for Md Habibur Rahman of late. Just now he was down to less than starting stack and he got it all in preflop against Rachid El Qmache, with the slight mathematical edge.

Md Habibur Rahman: {a-Spades}{5-Spades}
Rachid El Qmache: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

It came {4-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Rahman survived at the expense of Qmache who has barely more than ten big blinds now.

Poulangeris and Padilha Tussle

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

There were four players facing the {9-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop but after three checked to Celso Padilha in position and he bet 5,300, only Antonis Poulengeris called, taking them heads up to the turn.

It was the {10-Spades}, which brought a one-card straight possibility and a flush draw and Poulengeris check-called again, this time for 16,000. The last card out was the {2-Hearts} and after a third check, Padilha checked it back.

Antonis Poulengeris: {k-Spades}{2-Spades}
Celso Padilha: {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The two players had traded the lead at every street but ultimately it was Poulengeris who took it down with the better two pair, much to Padilha's disappointment.
