Bowers Baffles

Robert Bowers
Robert Bowers

Brian Smida raised to 550 from middle position and Robert Bowers called from the cutoff seat. Sean Lippel then reraised to 2,100 from the button, and when the blinds got out, both Smida and Bowers called.

The flop came monotone — {5-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs} — and all three checked. The turn was the {10-Spades}, and when Smida checked, Bowers made a tiny bet of 400. Lippel hesitated for a bit, then called. Smida then thought for a moment before pushing his hand away.

The river was the {2-Spades}. The action on Bowers, he bet again... again just 400. When Lippel hesitated once more, the table couldn't suppress a laugh at Lippel's quandary. Chuckling himself and shaking his head, Lippel let his hand go, and amid pleas to "show the bluff," Bowers took the pot.

D'Angelo Sets One Up

After a {Q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop, a player checked to Ryan D'Angelo who bet 1,100. A raise to 4,100 by D'Angelo's opponent was quickly called, landing the {2-Diamonds} on the turn. A bet of 8,000 came from D'Angelo's opponent, but failed to chase out D'Angelo. The {K-Spades} hit the river and this time D'Angelo's opponent check-called 20,500.

D'Angelo tabled {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a set, besting his opponent's hand to send D'Angelo over the century mark.

McColgan Gets Bowers

Robert Bowers busted a little earlier this afternoon, but has bought back in and taken a new seat over at Table 50. Just now he limped in from the hijack seat, his neighbor to the left also called, then Kevin McColgan raised to 800 from the button. The blinds folded, Bowers called, the third player folded, and the flop came {3-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}.

Bowers quickly tossed out a bet of 500, and McColgan called. The turn brought the {6-Spades} and a bet of 1,000 from Bowers, again called by McColgan.

The river was the {8-Diamonds}. Bowers once more tossed out an orange (1,000) chip, and McColgan called again without hesitation.

"You got me!" said Bowers with a gleam in his eye, and the table chuckled in response. McColgan showed his {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for aces, and Bowers tabled his {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts} for a missed gutshot.

Some for So

With the board showing {4-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} and about 10,000 in the middle, Joseph Tracy made a bet of 7,500 from middle position and Jennifer So thought for a while on the button before finally calling.

"Good call," said Tracy even before So turned over her {A-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a pair of aces. Tracy mucked, and So scooped the pot.

With the board reading {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and about 20,000 in the middle, Jason Rettberg was in the tank. He was facing a decision for his remaining 7,000-ish after Abhinav Asija went all in for just a little bit more.

After about 90 seconds, Rettberg called all in and tabled {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. He was ahead of Asija's {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}, but Asija made a higher flush whent he {A-Diamonds} river fell.
