PartyPoker Premier League IV

Day 3 Completed

David Benyamine Wins Heat #3 ($32,000)!

Benyamine Wins!
Benyamine Wins!
David Benyamine came into the third heat sitting in fourth place on the overall leaderboard with eight points. He was tied with Yevgeniy Timoshenko who would also be playing today. When the day was all said and done, Benyamine had successfully moved his way up to second place on that leaderboard.

It didn't look like Benyamine was going to make it to the top three, as he was all in a few times on the short stack, but managed to stay alive thanks to some timely river cards.

From the early goings, it looked like Daniel Negreanu was going to run away with this thing. But, after a couple of blunders within a few moments, Negreanu went from leading the field to out in fifth place. With his elimination, Ian Frazer, Timoshenko, Giovanni Safina and Benyamine all moved up in points and Negreanu left the day with just four points.

Here's how the standings look after the third heat.

1. Phil Laak – 32 points
2. David Benyamine - 24 points
3. JC Tran – 17 points
4. Yevgeniy Timoshenko – 16 points
5. Giovanni Safina - 15 points
6. Roland De Wolfe – 14 points
T-7. Vanessa Rousso – 8 points
T-7. Ian Frazer – 8 points
9. Phil Hellmuth - 6 points
T-10. Luke Schwartz – 4 points
T-10. Daniel Negreanu – 4 points
12. Tony G - 2 points

Phil Laak still leads the way going into the fourth match, but Benyamine made a big jump today with his win. He also added $32,000 to his pocket.

Another heat is set for tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. local time. We'll see you right back here for all the action from The M Resort & Casino for more coverage of the PartyPoker Premier League IV.

Giovanni Safina Eliminated in 2nd Place ($22,000)

David Benyamine limped the button with the {K-Clubs}{10-Spades} and then Giovanni Safina rasied from the big blind to 140,000 with the {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Benyamine made the call.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and it could prove to be the worst flop for Benyamine as they both flopped top pair, but Safina's kicker was best. Safina bet 150,000. Benyamine raised to 340,000 and then Safina moved all in. Benyamine made the call.

Safina was the player at risk, but did hold the best hand. He was all in for 820,000 total on the flop. Benyamine would be left with about 400,000 if he lost the hand.

The turn was a miracle for Benyamine when the {10-Hearts} fell, catapulting him to the lead and pushing Safina just about out the door. The river card was the {2-Spades} and that was it.

Safina was eliminated in second place and earned 11 points for his finish. He also picked up $22,000. Benyamine earned the maximum 16 points and took down the third heat.

Safina Takes Lead

Giovanni Safina raised to 60,000 from the button holding the {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}. David Benyamine called in the big blind with the {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}. After a flop of {10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs}, Benyamine check-called a bet of 90,000 from Safina.

The turn added the {9-Diamonds} to the board and both players checked. The river was the {8-Diamonds} and both players checked again.

"One pair," announced Benyamine, but then mucked when Safina tabled his top pair for two pair.

Safina now has a slight lead with 1.24 million to Benyamine's 1.16 million.

Frazer couldn't get there

Giovanni Safina raised all in for 745,000 with the {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Ian Frazer called all in with the {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} from the small blind. Yevgeniy Timoshenko was on the shortest stack at the table and looked down at {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and had a decision in front of him. He was in the big blind and went into the tank. Eventually, he folded his hand.

Frazer was he player at risk and all in for 329,000 chips. The flop came down {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{4-Hearts} and gave Safina he lead. The turn was the {A-Hearts} and now Frazer needed a jack or a ten.

The river failed to give him what he needed when the {Q-Diamonds} fell and Frazer was sent packing. He finished in fourth place and earned six points for his finish along with $12,000. Timoshenko saved himself and moved up in points.
