The first-ever Patrik Antonius Poker Challenge (PAPC) in the Olympic Park Casino in Tallinn had its biggest tournament on tap today with the €25,000 High Roller. The buy-in was off the charts for Estonian proportions, easily eclipsing the country's previous all-time high of €10,300 set by the EPT Tallinn High Roller in 2010. A total of 17 entries were made — four by the tournament's namesake Patrik Antonius himself — and in the end, it was the Finn's countryman Pauli Ayras who lifted the trophy.

Ayras defeated Holland's rising star Teun Mulder heads-up to claim the first-place prize of €163,300. Mulder received €122,400 for finishing second, Germany's high-stakes juggernaut Koray Aldemir finished in third (€81,600), while Tommie Janssen was the fourth and final player to cash (€40,870). Timothy Adams bubbled the event after buying in twice.

"It was nice to win, I played really solid all day," Ayras said to PokerNews. "Nothing really crazy happened before heads-up play."

"The heads-up player was a really tough player from Holland. I think he was one of the best players in this tournament," he added in praise of runner-up Mulder.

"Still, I just feel I was one step ahead of him at all times and figured out what he was doing."

Ayras is no stranger when it comes to 25K's. He finished second in the €25,000 EPT Barcelona High Roller last year, finishing ahead of the likes of David Peters and Alex Foxen. It delivered him a career-high score of €256,000. Today, he added a second six-figure ship and his first live poker title on top of it.

2019 PAPC €25,000 High Roller Action of the Day

Six players kicked off the biggest buy-in tournament ever in Estonia around 2 p.m., and ultimately a total of 17 entries were made. Notable players such as Robert Mizrachi, Joris Ruijs, James Romero and Dan "Jungleman" Cates all tried their luck but to no avail. High-stakes regular Adams became the bubble boy after open-shoving over twenty big blinds in a blind on blind situation against Ayras. The Canadian held king-queen but couldn't defeat Ayras' ace-queen to become the last player to leave empty-handed.

For Antonius himself, it became a dreadful day at the tables. The star of the show bought in no fewer than four times and found himself on the receiving end of some nasty coolers and bad beats multiple times. Antonius wasn't able to spin up his from his fourth and final attempt, leaving him empty-handed for the day.

It was Ayras who caught fire against Antonius right off the bat, making a early double-up at the Finn's expense when the latter called off pocket queens on a board containing two eights. Ayras held a third eight in his hole cards to take most of Antonius' first batch of chips.

The pocket queens would end up becoming Antonius' bane throughout the day, as the tournament's star also lost the majority of his second buy-in with pocket queens, this time after getting two-outered by pocket eights. On bullet three, he was out in mere minutes after shipping queens into kings. On his fourth and final attempt, being short, Antonius shoved all in with queen-eight suited, only to run into queens himself this time. Cruelly, the ladies held up, and Antonius was forced to watch any subsequent action in his own event from the rail.

Runner-up Mulder dipped his feet for the first time in a €25,000 event, and it became a fruitful affair for the 24-year old from The Hague, Netherlands. It's not the first time Mulder has tasted success in Tallinn; two months ago, the Dutchman won the €2,200 High Roller at the Kings of Tallinn festival in the same casino. Upon winning, he also received a free package for the €1,500 PAPC Main Event as an added bonus, and the return journey has already paid off big time before the Main Event is even underway.

The Dutchman held the chip lead for the majority of the final table, but ultimately had to bow to Ayras heads-up. Despite it being his first-ever 25K, Mulder's calm and composed nature kept any visible excitement under wraps.

"Admittedly, I found it exciting, but overall, I wasn't very nervous. I knew what I had to do," Mulder said to PokerNews afterwards. "But with this being my first 25k event, I'm truly happy, happy that I finished second. It was just a bummer that I lost the heads-up while starting out with the chip lead. But still, I'm very happy, overall."

Mulder credited Poker Ambition, a poker team coached by several high stakes Dutch players, as one of the underlying factors of his success.

"My coaches are working very hard and are extremely professional, I've already learned a lot from them. There were definitely a few concepts that came into play today," Mulder said in praise of his team.

The PAPC will continue on Thursday, April 4 at noon, with the first of two starting days of the €1,500 PAPC Main Event. The €10,200 PAPC Championship will commence on Saturday, April 6, and both events will play down to a winner on Sunday, April 7.

The PAPC also celebrates the launch of the FLOP app (First Land of Poker), which is still shrouded in some mystery. The launch of this app will be on Friday, April 5, and more details will be revealed by then. Teun Mulder Eliminated in 2nd Place (€122,400)

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 4,000 ante
Teun Mulder
Teun Mulder

Pauli Ayras just won the PAPC High Roller for €163,300 and the trophy while Teun Mulder collected the runner prize of €122,400.

In the final hand, Mulder opened up to 18,000 and got a call from Ayras.

Mulder fired out on all three streets after the action was checked to him and got calls. He first bet 32,000 after the {6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} came on the flop before he bet 75,000 after the {q-Diamonds} came on the turn.

Mulder jammed for 198,000 after the {7-Hearts} completed the board on the river and Ayras paused for a moment.

"I got to call," Ayras said before he called.

Mulder turned over {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Ayras turned over {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a pair before he screamed: "Yes!" Stay tuned for the recap of the day's action in the PAPC High Roller.

Koray Aldemir Eliminated in 3rd Place (€81,600)

Koray Aldemir
Koray Aldemir

Teun Mulder opened the button to 12,000. Pauli Ayras quickly folded the small blind before Koray Aldemir jammed from the big blind for around 100,000.

Mulder didn't ask for a chip count and snap-called his opponent.

Koray Aldemir: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Teun Mulder: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Aldemir got his chips in good but was quickly at a disadvantage with the {a-Spades}{5-Spades}{q-Diamonds} flop giving his opponent two pair. Neither the {4-Spades} on the turn nor the {q-Hearts} on the river were able to give Aldemir life and he was ousted in third place for €81,600.

Mulder and Ayras agreed after the hand to eliminate the antes. They played a few more hands and both players decided they wanted a five-minute break.

Left on a nub after losing the queens versus jacks, Janssen got it in multiple times and received no calls, only to be forced to give it up when the blinds passed again. On a first-in spot, Janssen shoved all in again, this time for 45,000, and Pauli Ayras came over the top al in.

Tommie Janssen: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Pauli Ayras: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

One of the Finnish railbirds jumped up to cheer for Ayras and he kept celebrating after the board came down {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. 'Godfatti' was the first to walk away with a cash prize of €40,870.

Timothy Adams open-shoved all in for about 95,000 from the small blind and Pauli Ayras immediately called from the big blind.

Timothy Adams: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Pauli Ayras: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

The flop came down {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Spades} to pair up both players and reduce Adams from three to two outs. The turn {q-Diamonds} and river {4-Diamonds} kept Ayras ahead to make the Canadian the last player to leave empty-handed.

Quads for Mulder

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Teun Mulder and Joris Ruijs

Teun Mulder opened from the hijack to 6,500. Pauli Ayras three-bet to 25,000 from the button and Mulder called.

Mulder check-called a bet of 20,000 after the {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Spades} came on the flop and check-called a bigger bet of 60,000 after the {4-Diamonds} came on the turn.

Both players checked after the {4-Spades} came on the river. Mulder turned over {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for quads.

"Nice runout," said Estonian poker legend Henri Kasper from the rail.

Mulder gave Kasper a nod as the dealer pushed over a nice pot his way.

Ruijs Misses Out on the Money

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Joris Ruijs
Joris Ruijs

Joris Ruijs limped in for 3,000 from under the gun, Pauli Ayras limped along in the cutoff, Tommie Janssen completed the small blind and Teun Mulder checked his option. On the {j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, Ruijs bet 11,000, Ayras called, and all other players folded.

The turn brought the {k-Spades} and Ruijs shoved all in for 49,600. Ayras beat the Dutchman into the pot with a call.

Joris Ruijs: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Pauli Ayras: {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Ruijs needed the board to pair if he was to survive but the {4-Diamonds} on the river ended his tournament life instead.

Ayras Eliminates Cates

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante
Daniel Cates
Daniel Cates

Pauli Ayras opened to 5,000 before Dan Cates jammed for 33,000. Ayras wasted no time to call and Cates seemed disappointed after he saw his {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} was dominated by his opponent's {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

Cates was in further trouble after his opponent nailed a set on the {q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} board and needed a pair of runners for a save. He was drawing dead after the {q-Hearts} came on the turn. The {4-Hearts} made things official on the river and Cates was out the door in seventh place just short of the dinner break.

Romero Railed by Mulder

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
James Romero
James Romero

Teun Mulder raised to 4,400 from middle position and James Romero three-bet shoved 29,400 two seats over. Koray Aldemir was in the big blind and briefly paused before cold-calling the shove. With just ten seconds to act preflop, Mulder used up a time extension before coming along with the call.

On the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop, Aldemir used a time extension before betting 8,000, which Mulder called. The {j-Spades} on the turn got checked by both active players.

The river brought the {7-Spades} and Aldemir used up another time bank card before checking. Mulder needed one extension chip as well before settling on a bet of 32,000. That was too much for Aldemir, who gave it up.

Mulder showed {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} for aces up, Romero had {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} for an inferior two pair and was eliminated in eighth place.

Ayras Delivers Cates a Cooler

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Pauli Ayras
Pauli Ayras

Pauli Ayras opened the button to 4,500 before he called a three-bet from Dan Cates of 14,000 from the big blind.

Cates check-raised from 9,000 to 23,000 after the {6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades} came on the flop and got a call from his opponent. Ayras then check-called a bet of 30,000 after the {5-Diamonds} came on the turn.

Ayras used a time bank chip before he jammed for over 39,000 after the {8-Spades} completed the board on the river. Cates snap-called and turned over {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}. His strong hand wasn't good enough as Ayras rivered a better full house showing {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}.

There appeared to be some confusion from Ayres after the hand when the chips didn't immediately come his way.

"I won, didn't I?" questioned Ayras.

It was immediately confirmed that was indeed the case and the dealer slid over a big pile of chips to Ayras.
