High Roller: The Bubble Continues

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Level 21 - Blinds: 15,000/30,000

There was no showdown in the first half of level 21 and Leon Tsoukernik pulled away further. One of those hands saw a small pot head to the {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{7-Hearts} river and a bet of 125,000 was in front of Steve O'Dwyer. Tsoukernik raised to 500,000 from one seat over in the big blind and O'Dwyer folded.

On the feature table, Alexandru Papazian raised to 60,000 and folded when Marcos Martinez pushed for 174,000.

Last but not least, O'Dwyer raised the cutoff and called the shove of short stack Vitaliy Gusak for 121,000.

Vitaliy Gusak: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Steve O'Dwyer: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The board came {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} and Gusak doubled.

High Roller: Laka Doubles Through Ustimov

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Level 21 - Blinds: 15,000/30,000

Over on the feature table, David Laka doubled through Viktor Ustimov on the pure money bubble. Ustimov triple barreled a board of {8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and Laka happily called the shove on the river with {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a full house. Ustimov only had {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for a bluff and Laka doubbled.

Soon after, the blinds moved up and there are still 13 players remaining.

High Roller: Big Pot for Tsoukernik on the Bubble

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Level 20 - Blinds: 12,000/24,000

Leon Tsoukernik raised to 60,000 from the cutoff and Diego Zeiter three-ber to 165,000 on the button, which Tsoukernik called. On the {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop and the {3-Spades} turn, both players checked. Tsoukernik bet the {10-Spades} river for 95,000 and Zeiter raised to 450,000.

"I call," Tsoukernik announced and Zeiter showed {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a bluff gone wrong, while Tsoukernik won the big pot with {K-Hearts}{J-Spades} for top two pair. There are still 13 players remaining and Tsoukernik pulled into a comfortable lead.

Eardley Tops Day 1a; Gorodetsky Among Big Stacks in Sochi

Poker Commentator Ilya Gorodetskiy Among Big Stacks on Day 1a
Poker Commentator Ilya Gorodetskiy Among Big Stacks on Day 1a

The first of three starting days of the 2017 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Russia $5,300 Main Event at the stunning Casino and Resort Sochi in Krasnaya Polyana is done and dusted. There were a total of 262 entries, which includes players that qualified through the phase one satellites on partypoker, as well as direct entries here in Sochi, and just 157 players made it through after eight levels of 60 minutes each.

At the top of the counts at the end of the day was UK's Matt Eardley with 4,413,000 closely followed by Petr Gabyshev with 4,048,000. Timofey Vekshin, who vaulted to the spotlight after sending Vitaliy Li to the rail, claimed the third-biggest stack with 3,709,000. Other big stacks and notables that made it through include Gurkan Gorguren (3,465,000), Artem Bezarenkov (3,450,000), Shyngis Satubayev (3,236,000), Franco Cantarella (3,203,000), and well-known Russian poker commentator Ilya Gorodetskiy (2,694,000).

Three players representing partypoker bagged up chips for Day 2 in Anatoly Filatov (2,400,000), Dzmitry Urbanovich (1,320,000) and Mike Sexton (495,000). They were joined by Richard Dubini and Jan-Peter Jachtmann, but both failed to run up their stacks. Dubini flopped the nut straight with ace-king only to see Jonathan Hayward get there on the river with five-deuce suited for a flush when the remainder of the chips went in. Jachtmann raised and called a three-bet by Alexander Krasuntcev to shove a jack-high flop with a gutshot and straight flush draw. Krasuntcev called with ace-jack for top pair and two blanks on turn and river spelled the end for Jachtmann.

Among those to run out of chips were Jonathan Hayward, James Lowrey, Nicolas Le Floch, Vladimir Geshkenbein, Natalia Panchenko and Josef Snejberg. Some of them will be back tomorrow for sure after qualifying with two stacks to take another shot at the guaranteed prize pool of $5,000,000.

Day 1b gets underway at 12 p.m. local time and the third and final flight, a 20-minute level turbo Day 1c follows on Monday September 11th 2017 before all survivors head straight into Day 2 as of 3 p.m. local time. The PokerNews live reporting team will provide all the action until a winner is crowned here in Sochi, so make sure to tune back in regularly.

Shirshikov Doubles Late On

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Artem Bezarenkov was closing in on the chip lead, but has taken a late hit after trying to push off Pavel Shirshikov off a pot on the {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{Q-Spades} turn. Shirshikov went nowhere and called all in for 606,000 with {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, much to the disguise of Bezarenkov who was caught bluffing with {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} only.

The {3-Hearts} river chan ged nothing and Shirshikov doubled. Also on the very same table is Ramin Hajiyev, who busted the High Roller against Leon Tsoukernik and pushed his stack up in the last level.

Two Late Bustouts

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

"I already have a stack bigger than this one for tomorrow," James Lowrey said after just having busted against Ilya Gorodetskiy. Lowrey pushed for more than 700,000 with the {K-Spades}{J-Spades} and Gorodetskiy looked him up with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. The board ran out queen-high with three diamonds and the ace-king high scooped the pot.

Jonathan Hayward has also been eliminated. He pushed over the top of a three-bet to 125,000 by Alexey Romanov and the latter called from the cutoff with {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Hayward only had {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} in the big blind and found no help on the board of {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} to bust out.

Chmielewski Bags a Late KO

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Marcin Chmielewski
Marcin Chmielewski

Marcin Chmielewski opened from under the gun and the player to his direct left three-bet to 125,000. Yevgeniy Fedotov cold-called in the small blind before Chmielewski called as well.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Fedotov wasted no time in moving all in for 230,000. Chmielewski asked for a count before calling, while the three-bettor flung his cards into the muck.

Fedotov: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Chmielewski: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and the river the {q-Spades}, bringing no help to Fedotov who was eliminated with barely half an hour left in Day 1A.
