Thomas Gallagher Leads the Way Heading Into the Final Day of the partypoker Grand Prix Killarney Main Event

The €300,000 guaranteed 2017 partypoker LIVE Grand Prix €340 Main Event at Ireland’s National Event Centre (INEC) and Gleneagle Hotel. has been a monumental success and Day 2 has been no different than the starting days.

The day began with 317 hopefuls competing out of the 906 entrants participating in all of the online and live opening days. By the end of the day, the field was trimmed down to just 26 players.

The top three spots heading into the final day all belong to Irish players. Day 1a chip leader Thomas Gallagher leads the way after Day 2 with 2.315 million chips closely followed by Brendon Birt with a second place stack of 1.74 million and Ronan Gilligan with a third place stack of 1.65 million.

Shortly before the dinner break, the money bubble broke after Michelle Gavigan experienced a bit of a cooler against Peter Cahill when her pocket nines failed to hold against her opponent's pocket eights after the board gave him a straight. The remaining 100 players were guaranteed at least a €600 payout.

Other players to fall short of the money during Day 2 included partypoker Ambassador Padraig Parkinson. Despite his elimination, Parkinson has been visibly been having a good time and is looking forward to tomorrow's €120 charity event. The €20 fee all goes to charity and the €50 add-on will be matched by partypoker. The funds are earmarked to help support the Pieta House which is run by Brother Kevin in Dublin who is involved in suicide prevention and self-harm

Meanwhile, players to cash in the tournament but not advance to Day 3 included Dara O'Kearny (83rd - €900) and Paul Leckey (53rd - €1,200).

Meanwhile, the VIP party kicked off at 10 p.m. today featuring a typical Irish band and an open bar.

Main Event action will resume tomorrow at noon local time. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to report all big hands and bad beats until a winner is crowned.

In addition to the Main Event and the charity event, also taking place tomorrow will be the second day of the partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Killarney €1,100 High Roller which features a generous €100,000 guarantee. Late registration will stay open until the beginning of Day 2.

Gavin Carroll
Gavin Carroll

Tommy O'Rourke opened from the button to 50,000. Gavin Carroll jammed to a little more than 300,000 from the button. O'Rourke tanked for a minute and called.

Carroll: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
O'Rourke: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Carroll was well ahead and just about clinched the hand only losing to runner-runner eights after a jack appeared on the flop. An eight appeared on the turn giving a very small chance for O'Rourke to still win the hand. However, the river was a blank and Carroll doubled up.
