The bubble is quickly approaching in this 2017 partypoker LIVE Million Germany Main Event, and just five of the 105 remaining players will leave with nothing but a sad story to tell.
One of them is Thomas Kurt Kastenhuber, who is the latest casualty of the tournament after getting his last 300,000 chips in with against the of Jc_Strider. The flop was safe, but a on the turn sent Kastenhuber halfway out the door, and no saving grace hit the river.
When the money bubble approaches there are usually some tables that move at a snail's pace. However, outside one or two tables, this isn't the case in the partypoker LIVE MILLION Germany Main Event. The tournament is now just five eliminations away from the rest of the players finishing in the money.
Third place finisher in yesterday's €2,200 High Roller, Aleksandar Tomovic, has been getting quite short these last few hours. He just put his last 320,000 at risk from the small blind after a button open from Brazil's Rinaldo Radler De Aquino Filho, and Filho ultimately made the call.
Tomovic tabled , Filho tabled , the dealer tabled , and the pot was chopped.
On an adjacent table Polish player Grzegorz Gosk is turning up the heat, and he is right now sitting at a pretty 2.2 million chips.
Rehman Kassam has been wearing self-designed t-shirts through the partypoker LIVE MILLION Germany poker festival. We learned from some of his friends that this isn't something uncommon.
Kassam has had a short-stack for the last few blind levels. Just moments ago he three-bet jammed for 5 1/2 big blinds or 135,000 chips with and got a call from an early position opener who held for a classic flip situation.
Kassam's opponent lost some of his outs with the monotone flop. The turn and river were blanks and Kassam's stack shot up to 330,000. In terms of big blinds, this is the most Kassam has had in awhile with almost 14.
A few more players have left the field which is now down to 107 players. The bubble will likely come either this blind level or the next one with the top 100 players guaranteed to be paid at least €2,000.
The partypoker LIVE MILLION Germany No Limit Hold'em 8-Max kicked off the first of its two opening days and as of now looks like it will provide huge value to anyone that enters. There are currently 64 entrants ponying up the €1,100 buy-in with four more blind levels today and a turbo flight tomorrow morning. At least another 136 entrants need to join the tournament for the buy-ins to meet the huge €200,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Players are heading on a 45-minute dinner break. The big board is showing 113 players remaining, meaning most of the players that return from the break will make the money with tournament paying out the top 100 players at least €2,000.
Partypoker Sponsored Pro Natalia Breviglieri chipped up to 1.4 million in chips after winning a handful of small pots. She is now at around 1.3 million in chips.
The TV crew informed us that her table is next up to be the feature table when they switch things up after players come back from 45-minute dinner break starting shortly. You will be able to see her in action in about 75 minutes when taking into account the 30-minute stream delay.
The action folded around to Thomas 'Kallllle' Pedersen in the small blind and he moved all-in for 259,000 total. James Akenhead in the big blind gave it a good, hard think before committing his 255,000, and hands were on their back.
Pedersen:
Akenhead:
Akenhead was ahead, and after the flop the former November Niner had the Dane needing backdoor cards to secure the knock-out. By the turn it was all over for Pedersen, and the river was just for show.
The Dane barely had an ante left but managed to win the next one putting his stack up to 28,000.
"What a comeback this would be," he said sheepishly, but he busted a few hands later when he couldn't quite beat the nut flush of an opponent.
