Fishberg Poised for Another Deep Run at Parx

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Greg Fishberg
Greg Fishberg

Day 1a has wrapped at Parx Big Stax 1100 in the Philadelphia area, and a very familiar name surged to the top of the counts to end the day.

It's Greg Fishberg in pole position after the first 15 levels of play of the Big Stax marquee event. He managed to bag a monstrous 719,000. That's good for a very wide lead as 31 of 140 entries made it through. He's the only player to even clear the 500,000 barrier.

That run came thanks to a furious finish, as Fishberg was sitting around 200,000 during the last couple of levels before he busted several players to close things out.

Few players have had more success than Fishberg over the years at Parx, as he ranks in the top three in both number of cashes and money won, according to the The Hendon Mob. With 16 final tables to his credit, he has nonetheless yet to claim a trophy in the $1,100 or $1,500 Main Events.

Other big stacks included long-time leader Robert Brobyn (482,000), Josias Santos (418,000) and Dan Daconti (412,500). Santos went from nearly out the door, needing three outs to avoid being down to a few big blinds, to bagging heaps when his ace-queen cracked kings.

Some of the others making it through included former champ Jimmy Poper, Victor Ramdin, and multiple WSOPC ring winner Peter Ippolito.

Players who fell short still have plenty of time to find a bag. There remains a long Day 1b ahead with more unlimited reentry, and late registration remains open until early in Day 2.

To find out whether anyone can match Fishberg's lofty heights, come back to PokerNews on Saturday to continue tracking the action.

Cooler for Daconti

After an under-the-gun limp, Dan Daconti made it 14,000 in middle position. A player on the button splashed in 45,000 and action folded back to Daconti. He moved all in after about 30 seconds and the player on the button quickly called, though he didn't look thrilled.

Dan Daconti: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop had Daconti sweating but the {4-Clubs} and {7-Spades} were safe for him.

Chen Busted

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Guoliang Chen
Guoliang Chen

Guoliang Chen had a bet of 16,000 in front of him on the button with {9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} on the felt. Robert Brobyn set him in for about 41,000 total, and a torn Chen went into the tank for a few minutes before opting to call it off. He flipped over {a-}{a-} but Brobyn had {j-Spades}{10-Clubs} for trips.

Alberto Holds Against Gordon

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
George Alberto
George Alberto

George Alberto was second to act and had an overbet of 17,000 in front of him with about 13,000 in the pot and {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} on the felt. Arnaldo Gordon opted to shove for about 70,000 from under the gun and Alberto was in there with a quick call, tabling {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Gordon had {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a straight draw, one he'd hit on the {8-Spades} river. Unfortunately for him, the card preceding that was the {5-Hearts}, so Alberto made a full house.

Chen Wins a Raising War

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante
Guoliang Chen
Guoliang Chen

Guoliang Chen in middle position and Navneet Kumar in the hijack got in a raising war on {j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. There was about 10,000 in the middle already with Kumar having wagered 7,000, only to see Chen ship it on him for his last 16,100.

It sounded like Chen told Kumar he'd show him, which prompted a warning from the dealer. Kumar did fold and Chen said he'd show one: {7-Spades}.

Welcome to Day 1a of Parx Big Stax 1100

For the third weekend in a row, Parx will host one of its marquee Big Stax events in the Philadelphia area. This time, it's the final and biggest event, the Big Stax 1100.

Big Stax 1100 features two starting flights, the first of which is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. on Friday morning. Each player receives 50,000 in starting chips with opening blinds of 100/100. Each level thereafter will sport an ante equal to the size of the big blind, paid by the big blind. Day 1 plays through Level 15 (2,000/4,000/4,000), with each level lasting 45 minutes.

The tournament is eight-handed and offers players unlimited reentry throughout the day and into the early portion of Day 2.

Just a few months back, Andrew Ostapchenko claimed just a little shy of $100,000 in the Big Stax 1100, so expect another quality prize pool to be generated here at one of the East Coast's premier poker venues.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for updates throughout the day.
