Opponent Misreads Hand Against Veldhuis, But Wins

Lex Veldhuis raised to 2,000 from the hijack seat and got a call from the two blinds. After the flop came down {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, action checked to Veldhuis and he bet 4,700. The small blind called and the big blind folded.

The {5-Clubs} landed on the turn and both players checked to see the {3-Clubs} land on the river. The small blind bet 4,000 and Veldhuis quickly tossed in the call.

The small blind tabled the {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}, but mentioned that he thought he had the {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and had misread his hand.

"What the f***?!" said Veldhuis as he snapped his cards back for one more peek prior to tossing them into the muck. He's down to 45,000 now as the table is being broken.

Borrero Bowled Over

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Chris Klodnicki opened to 1,600 from middle position, a player in the cutoff called, and Miguel Borrero three-bet to 4,800 on the button. Klodnicki tank-folded, but the player in the cutoff called. The dealer fanned {3-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, and both players checked.

The two knuckled again after the {5-Hearts} turned, but after the {4-Clubs} hit the river, the player in the cutoff tossed out 4,100. Borrero immediately called, and his opponent tabled {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for an ace-high flush. Borrero flashed an {8-}, then mucked.

The Falling Dutchman

It's been a pretty productive day for Marcel Luske so far, but he's just slipped back under It was three-handed when the dealer spread out {8-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {6-Spades}, and Ana Marquez checked from the big blind. The preflop raiser led out with 2,700, and both Luske (in position) and Marquez came along to the turn. It was the {6-Hearts}, and now the table checked to Luske. He eyed up the pot and put out a bet of 8,000, and both opponents came right along to the river.

It was the {K-Diamonds}, and it checked all the way through.

Luske tabled {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades}, but Marquez's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} was good enough to win the pot. We'll have to wait for her to stack up to get a count, but Luske is down to about 90,000 now.

Vohra's Ace High Better Than Veldhuis'

From the cutoff seat, Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis raised to 2,000. In the small blind, Raj "BadcardsAA" Vohra called and the big blind also called. From there, the three players took a {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop and action checked around to see the {2-Hearts} land on the turn and pair the board. Vohra bet 3,700 and the big blind folded. Veldhuis called.

The {3-Diamonds} landed on the river and both players checked before Vohra tabled the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. Veldhuis let out some joking moans of disgust as he flashed the {A-Diamonds} and then mucked.

Mattern Tanks Into Break

Team PokerStars Pro Arnaud Mattern just lost a pot that knocked him back to 136,000. The hand lasted nearly half of the break time and here's what went down.

Mattern raised from middle position to 1,400 and he was called in two spots — another player in middle position and the cutoff seat. The flop came down {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Mattern fired a continuation bet of 2,450. The next player folded, but the cutoff seat wanted to play for more and made it 6,700 to go. Mattern tanked for a couple minutes and then called.

The turn brought the {Q-Diamonds} and Mattern checked. His opponent slid out a bet of 13,500. Mattern tanked and tanked. Eventually, he folded his hand and let his opponent scoop the pot.
