Mattern Dashed

Arnaud Mattern has been crushed all the way down to just 30,000 chips, and he was kind enough to tell us how it happened. Mattern three-bet shoved on a short-stacked raiser (~120,000 chips) with pocket sevens. Mr. Raiser made the quick call with pocket queens, and a board full of blanks is the reason for the big decrease.

He's 1,000 chips over starting stack now, and it's time for a Mattern comeback.

Three-Way All In

Viacheslav Igin raised all in for 67,000 and Chad Eveslage made the call. Eddy Sabat then reraised all in for 91,000 and Eveslage called that as well.

Igin: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Eveslage: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Sabat: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {J-}{6-}{3-}{5-}{8-} and Igin's sevens held to give him the triple up. Sabat won the side pot, which allowed him to stay alive with 70,000 in chips.

Greenstein On a Heater

After doubling no more than a half an hour ago, PokerStars Team Pro Barry Greenstein just crossed the 500,000-chip mark. He did so by eliminating Daniel Bang-Ortmann when the two raced for all of Bang-Ortmann's chips.

Showdown
Bang-Ortmann: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Greenstein: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

The {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop gave Bang-Ortmann two pair, but Greenstein could make a flush with any heart, or a set with any ten. The {7-Spades} on the turn was a brick, but the {3-Hearts} slammed on the river, giving Greenstein a winning flush. Bang-Ortmann stayed true to his surname and banged the table with his hand in anger, then gathered himself and exited the room.

"That Makes Me Happy"

Mark Drover opened near the button, Shawn Klassen moved all in for 72,500 on the button, Arnaud Mattern tank-folded in the small blind, and Jens Patzner iso-shoved from the big blind, having everybody covered. Drover got out of the way, and the hands were turned over.

Showdown
Klassen: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Patzner: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

"I folded nines," Mattern told Drover.

The {k-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop smacked Klassen right in the face, but the {10-Spades} on the turn gave Patzner four extra outs to a straight. The {a-Diamonds} on the river gave Klassen a full house however, and he doubled to more than 160,000 chips.

"That makes me happy," Klassen said while stacking his chips.

Salles Spins Out Levy

Adam Levy (Day 2)
Adam Levy (Day 2)

Adam "Roothlus" Levy was getting short on chips when he got it all in with {K-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}, and he was in fine shape to double as Gualter Salles looked him up with the dominated {K-Clubs} {9-Spades}. It was blind-versus-blind.

Things turned sour on the flop for Levy, though, and the {7-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {5-Hearts} put him in a big hole with two to come. The {5-Clubs} turn was a blank to leave him dead to two outs, and the river {3-Spades} was a swing and a miss.

The field is thinning quickly here, and Levy has just become the latest eliminee to take the walk to the cashier's desk.

Chidwick Flips Out

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick got his last ~130,000 chips into the middle on a coin flip, and his {A-Spades} {J-Spades} was even money to keep him alive against Mikhail Shikhworich's {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}.

The {7-Spades} {10-Hearts} {A-Clubs} flop was a disaster for Chidwick, and the turn {4-Clubs} and river {8-Spades} ushered him out the door with a minicash.

Greenstein Doubles

Barry Greenstein on Day 2.
Barry Greenstein on Day 2.

A slew of cameras started to surround Table 5, and when the dealer said, "All in and a call," we rushed over.

Upon arriving, we discovered that Richard Bruning had Barry Greenstein all in and at risk, but Greenstein had Bruning dominated.

Showdown
Bruning: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Greenstein: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Greenstein held as the board ran {5-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, doubling to 280,000 chips.
