Day 3 Ends With Kelly on Top

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Patrick Kelly
Patrick Kelly

With 59 players remaining in the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event, the chip leader is Patrick Kelly, who bagged 1.75 million chips at the end of the night with thanks to two major hands involving pocket aces. In the first, he cracked Fabian Quoss’ aces with two queens, and in the second, his aces held against Michael Malm’s pocket kings in a seven-figure pot.

Joining Kelly at the top of the counts are Joe Serock, Darren Elias,

Day 3 of the 2013 PCA Main Event started with 166 players, an no one had a faster start than Serock. On one of the first hands played, he saw a flop of {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} with Jeremy Kottler. In it, Kottler checked, Serock fired 24,000, and Kottler called. The turn produced the {2-Diamonds}, and Kottler check-called a 57,500-chip bet from Serock.

The river was the {10-Spades}, and Kottler checked a third time. Serock fired a third and final bullet worth 135,000, and Kottler called. Serock tabled {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}, Kottler folded, and Serock raked in the pot.

A few orbits later, Mor Ben David five-bet all in against Serock with two kings. Serock, the four-bettor, snapped it off with aces, and held.

Hand-for-hand play began with 146 players, and two hands later, the bubble burst at one of the secondary feature tables. Short stack Joao Santos open-shoved for his last 11,500 with the blinds at 2,000/4,000/500. Robert Mizrachi re-raised to 25,000 on Santos’ direct left, and Vegard Froshaug moved all in for 71,000 from the small blind. Mizrachi immediately called.

Mizrachi: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Froshaug: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Santos: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Spades}{j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, and both Santos and Froshaug were eliminated.

Once the bubble burst, players began busting left and right. Dozens of notable players were able to eek into the money but go no further, including Will Molson, Tim Reilly, George Danzer, Dwyte Pilgrim, Matt Glantz, Lisa Hamilton, Joe Cada, Paul Volpe, Michael Mizrachi, Ashton Griffin, and Quoss.

Quoss’ elimination hand was especially brutal. He was all in and at risk for 120,000 holding {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, which dominated Kelly’s {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. Kelly spiked a set on the {5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{k-Clubs} flop, and held as the turn and river came {10-Diamonds}, {3-Diamonds} respectively.

Kelly’s hot streak continued when he won a seven-figure pot with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} off of Malm who held {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. The aces held this time as the board ran out {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, and the American was suddenly among the leaders.

Notables who survive the day include PokerStars Team Pros Eugene Katchalov and Jake Cody, PokerStars Team Online Member Tatiana Barausova, 2010 SCOOP Main Event champion Ryan Fair, PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final champion Mohsin Charania, 2001 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Carlos Mortensen, and two-time WSOP bracelet winners Greg Mueller and Scott Clements.

Day 4 of the 2013 PCA Main Event will begin on Friday at noon EST. The schedule says that play will resume until 24 players remain, but the schedule can certainly be adjusted.

Serock Vaults Into Chip Lead

Joe Serock Rockin' On Top
Joe Serock Rockin' On Top

Joe Serock has just taken the chip lead with 1.3 million in chips.

We found Serock and Antonio Matias engaged in a pot where the board read {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. After an unknown series of bets, Matias announced that he was all in for roughly 255,000. Serock called quickly to find out that he was ahead.

Serock: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Matias: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

The river was four-across, but it was not the one Matias was looking for, as it was the {9-Diamonds}, ensuring that Serock would score an elimination. After dragging in this pot we clocked Serock around 1.3 million for the top stack in the room.

Aces End Cada's PCA Run

Joe Cada
Joe Cada

We saw Team PokerStars Pro Joe Cada standing at the payout desk, which meant that he had been eliminated from the 2013 PCA Main Event. We asked Cada what happened, and he was kind enough to fill us in on the details.

According to him, he opened from early position with {A-}{K-} and was met by a three-bet to 30,000 from the player in the small blind. Cada responded by moving all in for roughly 130,000, and the small blind made a quick call with {A-}{A-}. Cada couldn't get lucky as the board ran out clean and finished in 120th place for $18,000.

PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo Exits With A Min-Cash

Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo was grinding a short stack on he bubble, and after it burst she opted to shove her last 26,000 under the gun with {K-Spades}{8-Spades}. One by one her opponents folded all the way around to Patrick Kelly in the big blind and he snap-called with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

Things looked good for de Melo at first as the {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{Q-Clubs} flop contained a king, but unfortunately for her it was followed by a queen to give Kelly a set. The {J-Clubs} turn gave de Melo some chop options, but the {4-Clubs} river failed to complete them. A gracious de Melo wished her fellow players good luck and then took her leave from the 2013 PCA Main Event.
