Sylvia Running Deep in Another Major

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jesse Sylvia
Jesse Sylvia

Jesse Sylvia is no stranger to performing on the highest platforms in poker. Just a few months ago, he entered the World Series of Poker Main Event final table as the chip leader and went on to turn that into a second-place finish worth $5,295,149 after losing to Greg Merson. Here in the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event — the second largest major event on the poker schedule every year — Sylvia is still alive as the field works its way down to under 100 players.

Hailing from Massachusetts, Sylvia considers himself a professional poker player and currently resides in Las Vegas. Upon initially moving to Las Vegas, Sylvia roomed with fellow WSOP Octo-Niner Russell Thomas. The two of them had dinner together throughout the WSOP Main Event before stretching their runs all the way down to the final table.

Prior to making the WSOP final table, Sylvia had $58,478 in live tournament earnings. He almost increased his live winnings by cashing in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, but became the exact bubble boy.

Since his big finish at the WSOP, Sylvia hasn't cashed in any live tournaments — until now. The $1,859,000 that's up top for the winner here in The Bahamas isn't quite as much as he won in Las Vegas, but we're 100% sure Sylvia won't have any problem adding it to his bank account. He's still alive, but floating below average, and we'll be keeping a close eye on him as he continues his quest.

More For Godoy

With a short-stacked Yury Gulyy already all in for about 21,000, David Bach and chip leader Nicolas Godoy had a side pot on a {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop. Both plaers checked to see the {A-Clubs} turn where Godoy bet 25,000. A call from Bach landed the {2-Diamonds} river where Godot fired 57,000.

Bach called and Godoy tabled {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a flush, besting Bach's {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. Gulyy took the main pot with {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}.

So Here's My Number, Chahley Maybe

Scott Chahley was all in and at risk for his last 50,000 or so holding {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. He was dominated by Michael Lipman's {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} however, and was eliminated when the board ran out {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Chahley is off to the cage to collect his winnings, while Lipman is up to 330,000 chips.

Quoss Can't Fade a Queen

Fabian Quoss was all in and at risk preflop for 120,000 or so with {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. Patrick Kelly had him at risk with {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, but before the dealer proceeded, she wanted to make sure that Quoss was actually all in.

Kelly had slid a 100,000-chip tower of blue T5,000 chips across the line, and thinking that it was enough to put him all in, Quoss pushed a few chips forward and turned his cards over. Kelly turned his cards over as well. The tournament director present ruled that Quoss was indeed all in due to accepted action, and the dealer proceeded.

The flop was {5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{k-Clubs}, and despite being two-outed, Quoss looked unfazed. The turn and river came {10-Diamonds}, {3-Diamonds} respectively, and the German was eliminated.

Kelly pulled in the pot, and now has around 400,000 chips.

Cody's River Bet Fails

Jake Cody opened to 10,000 from the cutoff only to be re-popped by Mark De Faria in the small blind. It was 18,000 back to Cody and he called to see a flop.

The dealer fanned {J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and De Faria checked. Cody checked right behind and the {A-Diamonds} hit fourth street. Two more checks and the dealer brought the {K-Spades} on the river. De Faria tapped the table for a third time and Cody took a stab with 18,000. He received a call and Cody meekly showed {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for just seven-high. De Faria flipped up ladies - {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} - and dragged in the pot.

Aces End Cada's PCA Run

Joe Cada
Joe Cada

We saw Team PokerStars Pro Joe Cada standing at the payout desk, which meant that he had been eliminated from the 2013 PCA Main Event. We asked Cada what happened, and he was kind enough to fill us in on the details.

According to him, he opened from early position with {A-}{K-} and was met by a three-bet to 30,000 from the player in the small blind. Cada responded by moving all in for roughly 130,000, and the small blind made a quick call with {A-}{A-}. Cada couldn't get lucky as the board ran out clean and finished in 120th place for $18,000.

Godoy Eliminates Volpe

Paul Volpe - Eliminated
Paul Volpe - Eliminated

Action folded to Paul Volpe in the small blind and he went all in for about 50,000. Nicolas Godoy called from the big blind and tabled {K-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, leading Volpe's {J-Spades}{6-Clubs}.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} to give Godoy a commanding lead. Volpe picked up a lot of outs with the {J-Clubs} turn, but the {5-Diamonds} river officially ended his Main Event.

Easy Game for Eddy

Just before break, Eddy Sabat and Joe Serock tangled in a pot. Sabat opened to 8,000 from middle position, Serock called in the cutoff, and Maxim Panyak defended his big blind. The flop fell {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Panyak checked, and Sabat continued for 11,000. Only Sabat called.

The turn was the {4-Spades}, both players checked, and the {4-Clubs} completed the board. Sabat fired 29,500, and Serock quickly called. Sabat rolled over {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, and won the pot.
