Martirosian Leads The Pack In $250,000 PSPC Super High Roller

The 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure continued today with Day 1 of the $250,000 PokerStars Players Championship Super High Roller at the beautiful Baha Mar Resort.

After only four levels of play on Day 1, Artur Martirosian leads the pack with an impressive 726,000 in chips. Next closest was Chris Brewer (547,500) and Henrik Hecklen (465,000) to round out the top three.

This star-studded field attracted 25 entries from the biggest and best players from around the globe to create a $6,088,500 prize pool, and with late registration and rebuys open until the start of Level 9 on Day 2, that number will be sure to grow.

Some high-stakes notables who jumped in early included EPT champions Adrian Mateos and Mikita Badziakouski, as well as recent PCA High Roller winners Isaac Haxton, Justin Bonomo, and David Yan to name a few.

Day 1 Action

Things got off to a hot start with many big pots early on. Martirosian scored a massive double up in the first level off of Andrew Lichtenberger, who held kings while Martirosian rivered the nut-flush with ace-king. Lichtenberger could not rebound from the bad beat and would hit the rail soon after.

Chalie Hook also exited the field early when he moved all in with ace-queen but ran into the ace-king of Brewer and couldn’t find improvement. A short while later, Yan would flop a set of sixes but was up against the top set of kings for Orpen Kisacikoglu. Yan would be left with a couple of big blinds and need to rebuy a few hands later.

Day 2 starts on February 1st at 2 p.m. EST and is scheduled to play eight more one-hour levels with blinds resuming at 1,000/2,500 with a 2,500 big blind ante. Players who wish to join will have until the start of Level 9 to do so.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews to bring you all the up-to-date coverage as we come closer to crowning a new super high roller champion here in The Bahamas.

Lehne Finds Lucky River To Stay Alive

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Kathy Lehne
Kathy Lehne

In a heads-up pot with close to 35,000 in the middle on a board showing {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}, Kathy Lehne checked from the small blind to Seth Davies on the button who bet out 55,000. Lehne took a moment before moving all in for 153,000 total and Davies quickly called to put Lehne at risk.

Kathy Lehne: {k-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Seth Davies: {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}

Both players flopped trip fours but Davies was well out in front with the better kicker. Lehne was shocked to see what she was up against and let out a sigh.

"You're not dead yet," said Davies before the {k-Clubs} hit the river to give Lehne the one card she needed to secure the massive double up.

"I shouldn't have said anything," joked Davies as he paid the bet.

Ponakovs Takes From Chip Leader

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Aleksejs Ponakovs
Aleksejs Ponakovs

Aleksejs Ponakovs opened to 4,500 in the cutoff and only Artur Martirosian made the call in the big blind.

The flop fanned out {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{4-Spades} and both players checked to the {8-Clubs} turn. Martirosian led out for 10,000 and Ponakovs quickly made the call.

The {10-Spades} completed the board and Martirosian slowed down with a check to Ponakovs who announced a bet of 27,000. Martirosian pondered for a few moments, but eventually mucked his hand and the pot was sent to Ponakovs.

Pardo Flops Top Set; Yan Hits The Rail

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
David Yan
David Yan

David Yan moved all in for 8,000 from under the gun and Sam Greenwood called next to act. It folded around to Juan Pardo who called in the small blind and Orpen Kisacikoglu put in a three-bet to 40,000 from the big blind. Greenwood quickly got out of the way and Pardo called.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs} and both players checked to the {3-Diamonds} turn. Pardo led out for 60,500 and Kisacikoglu quickly folded.

David Yan: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Juan Pardo: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The inconsequential {k-Diamonds} hit the river and the set of eights for Pardo scored the pot to send Yan to the exit.

Davies Puts Pressure On Addamo; Yan Goes Set Over Set

Level 3 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Seth Davies
Seth Davies

Michael Addamo opened to 4,500 from the button and only Seth Davies made the call in the big blind.

Action checked through to the river on a completed board of {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{a-Spades}, and after close to two minutes, Davies led out for 11,500. Addamo took a few seconds, but in the end made the fold and Davies scooped the pot.

Meanwhile on Table #1, David Yan moved all in for close to 200,000 on a board showing {k-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and was snap-called by Orpen Kisacikoglu, who had just under that amount.

Yan tabled {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a flopped set but was no good against the {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} for Kisacikoglu who scored the full double up, leaving Yan extremely short.
