Huanhuan Folds Out Suri

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Bobbie Suri sure does like to play his position aggressively, generally good practise for any player looking to chip up in a tournament. However, that has not worked out all that well for the Indian player in this particular instance.

Action folded around to Suri in the cutoff and he made it 800 to go. This is not the first time today that Suri has attacked Yang Huanhuan’s big blind and it looked as though the Chinese player has started to defend to compensate and made the call.

The {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop looked like a decent one to continuation bet on, and Suri thought so too, making it 1,000 to go when Huanhuan checked the action over.

However, it appeared the Chinese player was just playing possum and he quickly check-raised to 2,700. Suri peeked down at his cards once again but decided to let this one go and folded, leaving Huanhuan to rake in the pot unopposed.

Seng Takes From Lam

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

There have been several new arrivals with PokerStars Championship Macau HK$206,000 High Roller Champion Quan Zhou and Asia Championship of Poker Platinum Series Champion Alex Lee recently seated, both at the same table coincidently.

We were lurking near their table hoping to catch the two in action when I decent sized pot played out between two of the fields Macanese players, Lei Seng and Yuehin Lam.

Seng was the antagonist in this particular pot, making it 1,000 to go from under-the-gun with Lam re-raising to 3,000 from the hi-jack. That deterred anyone else from getting involved and after Seng made the call it was heads-up to a {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop.

Seemingly not phased at being re-raised pre-flop Seng led out for a 2/3 pot bet of 4,000 and Lam seemed a little taken aback at this turn of events and mulled over his options. Eventually, Lam chose to call and the dealer burned and turned the {j-Diamonds} to pair the board.

This brought checks from both players and the {a-Clubs} hit the river. That looked like a great card to bet, and Seng also thought so and fired for 8,000. Lam chewed over the decision for several seconds before sliding his cards into the muck, leaving Seng to win without showdown.

Xu Wins Chunky Pot

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Some of the players are not shy about getting their chips in the middle despite the fact the day is still young and we caught a massive pot that just played out between China’s Shaoming Li and Xin Xu.

We caught the action on the river with the board reading {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{q-Spades} just as Li checked it over to Xu. There has evidently been some heavy betting and there is over 14,000 in the pot, which is just slightly under Li’s 15,075 remaining stack.

Xu decided the right amount to bet was 6,000 and Li did not look happy. He flashed Xu his hand before pitching it into the muck and while we could not see what it was we are making an educated guess that it was an overpair from the disgusted look on Li’s face. Xu obligingly flashed his opponent the {q-Clubs} for the full house before raking in the chunky pot.

Lam Beats Yeung

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

We are now up to 56 entries, 50 of whom are still in the running. One of those is Macau’s Yuehin Lam who has got his Main Event off to a great start and is sitting on a stack over 65,000. This has just got a little bigger, at the expense of Hong Kong’s Wai Yeung.

Pre-flop Lam opened the action with a raise to 500 from middle position with Yeung and Iori Yogo making the call from the hi-jack and button respectively.

The {10-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop saw Lam lead out for 1,200 and Yeung thought it over before throwing out some raising chips, making it 2,700 to go. Yogo quickly folded but Lam did not look ready to give it up just yet and after thinking things over he made the call to tale play heads-up to the {k-Diamonds} turn.

Lam checked it over to Yeung, who continued to try and sell his story with a 4,500 bet into the 7,200 pot. Lam called a lot quicker than he did on the flop and it was off to the {6-Clubs} river.

The Macanese player checked it over to Yeung, who looked deterred from firing again by the speed of Lam’s turn call and he quickly checked it back.

First to act means first to show if there has been no betting and Lam rolled over {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and Yeung quickly folded.

The 50 Day 1A players are on their first official break of the day with play resuming in 10-minutes.

Xiaofeng Wins from Li

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We are now up to 52 entries, 50 of whom are still in the running. However, this tournament offers unlimited re-entry for those with deep enough pockets so any player who busts today at any point can re-enter any of the Day 1 starting flights.

Any player who does make it through to Day 2 can still play either Day 1B or 1C, or both should they choose, with their biggest stack carrying over to Day 2.

Some of the new arrivals include APT Player of the Year Iori Yogo, China’s Yuan Li and Sixiao ‘Juciy’ Li, the latter of whom we caught in action in a hand against Frederik Farrington and Jiang Xiaofeng.

Pre-flop it was Li who was the aggressor, making it 450 to go from the hi-jack with Farrington (small blind) and Xiaofeng (big blind) making the call to take the action three-way to a flop of {j-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

All three players checked and the {8-Clubs} hit the turn. This brought a check from Farrington and a bet of 650 from Xiaofeng. Li called and Farrington folded to take the action heads-up to the {2-Diamonds} river.

Xiaofeng led for 1,125, which was enough to get Li to give it up and the Chinese player raked in the pot.

Suri in Action

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

India’s Bobbie Suri is in the running and has just taken down a pot with some canny positional play. Following an early position, limp Suri made it 700 to go on the button with the player in the small blind and the limper making the call to take the action three-way to a flop of {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}.

Both opponents checked the action over to Suri who fired out a close to pot sized 1,500 bet. While the small blind folded immediately the limper looked tempted but eventually decided against it leaving Suri to scoop the pot unopposed.

It appears Mr. Suri has been a busy bunny and he has now run his initial 30,000 starting stack up to 47,000.

Dong Gets Richer

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Gui Dong is playing an awful lot of pots at present, and every time we walk past his table the Chinese player is involved in a sizable hand.

Dong was heads-up against tablemate Shaoming Li, who had just bet 2,200 into roughly 4,000 on the river on a queen-high flop. Unfortunately for Li, there was also a jack on the board meaning Li’s {a-Spades}{q-Spades} top pair was not enough to beat Dong’s flopped set of jacks and the WPT Korea High Roller Champion scoops yet another pot.

Of course, when you hit a lot of hands then you have to play them and it looks like Dong is running hot at present. Let’s hope he doesn’t use all that run good up early eh?
