Table of Death

The tables seem a little more balanced than yesterday with most of the high profile players spread out across the room. If we had to pick a "table of death" today it would probably be the second feature table which includes the likes of Andrew Jeffreys, Van Marcus, Roy Bhasin, and Ben Delaney.

A couple of other interesting tables find Lee Nelson seated with Gareth Edwards; Bruno Portaro and Andrew Scott are already locking horns on Table 50, while Joel Dodds will have to contend with the antics of Mark Vos.

Cotaidis Counterfeits Kia

Farhad Kia and George Cotaidis just tangled up in a huge early pot, leaving one of them completely out of chips.

The flop brought {4-Spades} {3-Hearts} {5-Spades}, and after a raising war, the two players both got all in, putting 40,000 chips up for grabs.

Showdown:
Kia: {4-?} {5-?}
Cotaidis: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}

Kia had out-flopped his opponent in a big way, and was looking for a big double up. The turn was a seemingly safe {10-Diamonds}. The last card off was disastrous for Kia though. The board paired the wrong card for him, as the {10-Spades} meant Cotaidis improved to a bigger two pair. Kia's hand got counterfeited, and he was relinquished to the rail here in the first level. Cotaidis raked in a beautiful early pot, doubling up right to 40,000.

Trung Climbing the Ladder

We meander over to Trung Tran's table and find him involved in a heads-up pot. With all the cards out, the board shows {9-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. The leading player checks, and Tran puts out nearly-pot-sized bet of 2,500 chips. His opponent makes the call, and Tran shows down {3-?} {3-?}, having walked into a straight. The dealer pushes the pot to Tran as his opponent frowns and mutters under his breath, "Runner-runner..."

Tran is up to 25,000 early.

Scott Rivers a Set

Andrew Scott check-called bets made by Bruno Portaro on both the flop and the turn as the board filled out {10-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {8-Spades} {2-Spades}. The river delivered the {4-Diamonds} at which point Scott led out with a 1,500 bet. Portaro just called and Scott turned over pocket fours for a set; Portaro showed the {10-Spades} {8-Clubs} for top two pair before mucking his cards.

"First pocket pair I've hit a set with in 32 times," Scott said after the hand.

Obst Starts Well

Young gun James "Andy McLEOD" Obst is also off to a bright start in his first live Main Event on home soil.

Obst called bets from his opponent on all streets on a board of {10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. When faced with a 6,500 chip decision on the river, Obst went into the tank for a long time and seemed unsure about whether to just call or move his entire stack into the middle. In the end he just made the call as his opponent flipped {K-Spades}{J-Clubs} for the busted straight draw, which was well behind Obst's {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for a full house.

Obst is a dangerous man with chips in front of him as he is off to a great start to already sit with 30,000 chips.

Tricky Topakas

Steve Topakas is ready to mix it up early, it appears. We pick up a hand at his table with the flop showing {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}. Topakas checks, and his lone opponent bets 1,000. Topakas calls.

Fourth street comes the {A-Clubs}, and Topakas check-calls another bet, this time for 1,500 chips.

The last card off is the {3-Spades}, and Topakas seizes control of the betting. He leads out into the pot with a single yellow T5,000 chip. His opponent pauses briefly to consider his options before flipping his cards into the muck. Topakas opens up his hand, revealing {10-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. His flush draw missed, but it's good enough to win him a few early chips. He's up to 23,000.

You're The Voice, Try and Understand It

We caught the action on the river with the board showing {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} with Paul "The Voice" Khoury facing a 2,100 bet from his opponent.

Khoury thought for a few moments before raising another 3,200, and his opponent snap-called tabling {4-?}{6-?} for a rivered straight. However Khoury flipped {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a full house to take a nice early pot. He's already up to 27,000 chips.
