Dory Zayneh
Dory Zayner is simply killing it today. If you followed the 2007 PokerNews Cup Main Event, you'll remember that the champion was our current chip leader, Zayner. Last year at the end of Day 1, Zayner finished off with just over 100,000 chips. Already today he has amassed almost double that! He's currently sitting with 195,000 and just eating away at his opponents' stacks one by one.
Taking home $300,000 for his win last year, Zayner has his eyes set on the first place prize of $250,000 this year. The buy in for the event is a little smaller -- $2,000 compared to last year's $2,800 -- and there are a few less entrants in the field -- 18 to be exact. Only time will tell if Zayner can capture the repeat, but it surely looks like he's setting himself up very nicely.
After the recent breaking of table 50, the following lineup has developed on table 26 - Andrew Scott, Mark Casale, Harris Pavlou, Lee Nelson and John Dalessandri. Ouch!
Matthew Kirk in an earlier event
Matt Kirk and Luke Abolins tangled up in a one-on-one showdown, and it resulted in one player losing his whole stack.
In a raised pot, the two men watched the flop come down . Both men got it all in, with Abolins having Kirk covered.
Showdown:
Abolins:
Kirk:
Kirk had been a huge underdog, but he managed to find his set on the flop, putting him in fine shape to double. Abolins wasn't done yet however. The river was a blank, the . Lightning struck on the river though, as the gave Abolins the winning flush. He rallied from behind to overtake Kirk and send him to the rail.
Jim Sachinidis and Stephen Goldwater both got it all in preflop with Sachinidis at risk for his tournament life.
Showdown:
Sachinidis:
Goldwater:
In a classic race, the two men went at it for a big pot. An drilled the flop, vaulting Goldwater into the lead. Sachinidis failed to re-take the lead, and he is eliminated. Goldwater's horse ran faster, and he delivers the knockout, chipping up to 55,000.
Preflop, Lee Nelson raised it up from under the gun for around 2,800 and found a caller in Randy Bergdoll.
The flop came and Nelson made a continuation bet of 4,600. Bergdoll made a pretty quick call.
The turn was the and Nelson checked to Bergdoll who tossed a single 5,000 chip into the pot. Nelson deliberated before making the call.
The peeled off on the river and Nelson checked to Bergdoll who decided to check behind. Bergdoll tabled for just a pair of tens but Nelson couldn't beat it as he tossed his cards into the muck.
Bergdoll is up to 30,000 while Nelson takes a hit but is still in fine shape with 75,000 chips.
