Waldemar Kopyl Leads 45 Advancing From Final PokerNews Cup Starting Flight

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Waldemar Kopyl
Waldemar Kopyl

The poker playing public of Rozvadov saved the best until last with 228 players entering the final flight of this year's €250 PokerNews Cup Main Event. This brought the total number of entrants to 617, a slight dip on last year's number.

With two flights in the same day there were a number of familiar faces across both flights, with the likes of Mike Hansen, chiKKita banAAna, Olaf and Magic Man 558 featuring in both starting flights.

After 15 levels, the leader of the 45 players from the final starting flight going into Day 2 is Waldemar Kopyl with 482,500. Close behind him is Rifat Gegic with 461,000.

Kopyl began to amass chips in earnest in the final levels of the day, getting it in with a flush draw against a straight draw, only for his flush draw to come in on the turn. He also later went on to flop a set of sevens against the top pair of a third player in a pot worth well over 300,000 in chips.

There are a bunch of players hovering at just under 300,000, including Tezer Cetindag (293,500), Peter Muller (276,000), Paul van Alst (266,500), Holger Bansner (272,400) and Zurab Ejibia (282,500). They will be looking for a strong start to Day 2 to kick on to challenge among the Day 1 chipleaders.

Here are the details of the chip leaders from all Day 1 flights:

Other stacks advancing from Day 1D include Roman Cieslik (81,500), Timothy Waltner (101,500), Khossrow Paydar (52,000), and chiKKita banAAna (77,500).

In a strange perk of this tournament, David Taborsky (191,000) bagged up for the second time in this tournament after bagging 101,000 in Day 1C. It is unclear how many players exactly did the same thing has him, but he has the opportunity to take his best stack forward.

In total there will be 114 players advancing to Day 2 which will be covered live on PokerNews tomorrow as of 1 p.m. local time. Before the restart, the details of how many players will cash will be released and action recommences in level 16 at blinds of 2,500/5,000 with a running ante of 500.

Gegic Scores a Big Double

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Rifat Gegic
Rifat Gegic

Eimantas Navickas opened to 10,000 and Rifat Gegic three-bet to 30,000, which Navickas called. On the {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop, Navickas checked to Gegic in the hijack and then moved all in once he faced the bet of 45,000 by the German. Gegic quickly called and the cards were turned over.

Rifat Gegic: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Eimantas Navickas: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The {Q-Hearts} turn and {8-Clubs} river changed nothing and Gegic doubled for close to 150,000. One hand later, Navickas shoved his last 20,000 in the Gegic isolated with a raise to 50,000. Navickas showed {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Gegic's {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs} failed to deal the final blow on a board of {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}.

Olaf Secures Miracle Triple Up

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Olaf
Olaf

Rokas Barzdzius raised to 7,000 from middle position and Jean Bellance called in middle position. Olaf was in the big blind and he three-bet all in for 9,000 and both other players called.

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and both players checked.

The turn was the {k-Clubs} and Barzdzius check-called a bet of 10,000. The river was the {2-Hearts} and both players checked.

"Deuce?" said Olaf, turning over the {2-Spades}. Barzdzius showed {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Bellance {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} to win the side pot. Olaf turned over his other card, the {6-Hearts} and won the main pot and tripled up in the process.

Kopyl Takes Commanding Lead

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Waldemar Kopyl
Waldemar Kopyl

Wolfgang Jeindl tripled up with pocket nines versus {A-Spades}{7-Spades} versus ace-queen and the next pot was just a few minutes away. On the three-way flop of {Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, Jeindl in the small blind was still in action while Waldemar Kopyl was in the big blind. Another big stack at the table was not willing to let go and a big check-raise was followed by the shove of the big stack.

Jeindl quickly got out of the way, but Kopyl snap-called for more than 200,000, having the other player covered. Kopyl showed {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and the other player turned over {Q-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for top pair and no kicker. The {5-Diamonds} turn and {6-Diamonds} river completed the board and Kopyl's stack skyrocketed to almost half a million.

Hansen Busts in Three-Way All In

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Mike Hansen
Mike Hansen

Martin Kluckner raised to 5,000 and chiKKita banAAna three-bet to 15,000. Mike Hansen, who was a big stack not long ago, shipped the rest of his short stack in and Kluckner moved in for 34,000. chiKKita banAAna called to put two opponents at risk.

Mike Hansen: {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
chiKKita banAAna: {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Martin Kluckner: {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The King's Casino regular asked for a king, but the board ran out {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs} to let Kluckner double and eliminate Hansen.

Magic Man Eliminated by Paul Van Alst

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Magic Man 558
Magic Man 558

Paul van Alst raised and Magic Man moved all in for around 10,000. Van Alst called.

Magic Man 558: {10-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
van Alst: {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Magic Man 558 had gotten to his feet, but tablemate Roman Cieslik reassured him, encouraging him to sit down. He pointed out the {q-Hearts} in the window of the flop, but the whole flop was bad news for Magic Man coming {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{q-Hearts} giving his opponent a flush.

However, Magic Man still held the {10-Hearts} and could turn or river a better flush. Sadly for him the turn {9-Spades} and river {a-Spades} were no help for him and he was eliminated.

Olaf Looks to Build With Snowmen

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Olaf
Olaf

The cards were on their backs between a player known only as Olaf and another unnamed player who was at risk with {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}. Olaf held {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}.

The flop came {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} giving Olaf an open-ended straight draw with his "snowmen." The turn was the {4-Hearts} completing his draw, and the river {j-Spades} was irrelevant.

He moved up to around 83,000, well above average at this stage of the tournament.
