An Overbet Seals the Deal for Efthimiadis

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Georgios Efthimiadis flopped a set with sixes with the board showing {6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

He was against Nikolaos Pouliezos and both players checked with the {9-Spades} hitting the turn. Efthimiadis check-called Pouliezos' bet and the {2-Diamonds} hit the river with Efthimiadis shoving all in, with a stack of 32,000.

The pot had around 15,000 until this time, which meant that Efthimiadis bet was more than two-times the pot. Pouliezos called with sevens and Efthimiadis is on his way to the starting stack.

Three Bustouts at the Same Time

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A sudden storm during a sunny day was the previous five minutes of this level. We saw two bustouts and a third one happened exactly when we were leaving the room to inform you about the hands.

Leonidas Mavidis busted after a beat with kings against Hionidis' ace-king, when an ace hit the flop and he didn't manage to find help on the next two streets.

Georgi Ignatov is the second player that busted when put his chips in the middle with ace-seven in an ace-six-four board to see his opponent calling with four-six and two pairs that held until the river.

Emil Trenkov is the third player that busted when David Reef hit his flush draw on the river and sent him to the rail.

That means that 21 players are left in the field and the tournament staff had to close one table, with the players continuing their efforts in the three last tables of Day 1a.

Muck or Show

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A situation arised on Table 1, where a player bet the river, his opponent called and the initial bettor mucked instantly his hand. That made the caller to muck too and he said that he is not obliged to show since his opponent mucked. The players had a debate in the table with some of them saying that even if your opponent mucks, you have to show the winning hand.

Who else could solve this issue, if not Thomas Lamatsch, one of the best tournament directors in the world, right now offering his services in Finix Casino during the PokerNews Cup. Lamatsch put it really simple and everybody understood.

"If your opponent mucks, then you don't have to show the winning hand. He lost the right to ask you this, since he himself mucked", said the tournament director of the High Roller.

The only debatable thing in the discussion was if the bettor has the right to muck, since his opponent paid the bet to see his cards. In the old Texas-style poker, you had to show your hand, that is why it is called showdown "i am paying, show me your hand."

But in all the European events, you don't have to show the winning hand if the bettor mucks.

At Least We Laugh

Level 4 : 400/800, 800 ante

That exactly is the situation on Table 4, where the players seem to have a great time, despite the fact that we are playing a €1,100 event!

Dimitrios Dimitros is the main reason of all things that happen there, since he takes part in almost every pot, with the other players hunting him down to the river and calling him with marginal hands.

One of those hands brought his elimination, when he shoved on the turn with ace-high and "POLY10" called him with third-pair which held after the river.

When Dimitros busted, he decided to re-enter and the tournament staff gave him some cards to pick, to choose randomly in which table he will be seated. "I picked one of 17 cards and i am here again", Dimitros said before taking his seat in the same table!

The other players laughed when they saw him again there with one of them saying: "It was a bluff, all 17 cards where the same so that you come here again!"

Double-Up for Ivanov and Chipcounts Around the Field

Level 4 : 400/800, 800 ante

Ivan Ivanov is the latest player that managed to double up when he shoved on a flop {2-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} with {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. Emil Trenkov was his opponent and he was holding {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} with the nut flush draw, a gutshot and an overcard.

Turn and river didn't change anything and Ivanov is up to 220,000 while Trenkov is down to 45,000.

Below you can find some updated counts from the field.

Aces Not Good for Pouliezos

Level 4 : 400/800, 800 ante

Nikolaos Pouliezos min-raised from early position before the flop and Christina Orfanidou called from middle position. The rest of the table folded and the dealer opened the flop.

{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Pouliezos check-called a bet of 2,000 chips from the only woman of the field.

The {10-Spades} hit the turn and Pouliezos check-called again, this time for 4,000 chips.

The {7-Hearts} completed the board on the river and Pouliezos check-called for the third time, while Orfanidou bet 5,000 and Pouliezos snap-called again.

Pouliezos saw the bad news when Orfanidou opened {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a full-house and showed quickly his aces before throwing them to the muck. Orfanidou is trying to reach the starting stack after losing some pots in the first three levels.
