Winter Takes from Peters

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

There are already 15 tables open and several players are on the third, fourth or even fifth table of the day. Sean Winter was among those and he faced David Peters just now. After a raise to 900 by Winter, Peters called in the big blind and the flop came {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, which both players checked.

On the {9-Diamonds} turn, Peters check-called a bet of 1,600 and then bet the {9-Hearts} river for 5,800. Winter made it 19,000 to go and was called to turn over {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for trips nines.

Once Upon a Greenwood

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

In a raising war, Mike Watson squeezed to 7,700 out of the big blind and Sam Greenwood called on the button. Both players checked the {8-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} flop before the {9-Diamonds} turn saw a check from Watson. Greenwood bet 5,000 and Watson let go.

The table not only features another Canadian but in fact Sam's brother Luc, which may make upcoming hand histories from that very table somewhat confusing.

Newey on Second Bullet

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante
Paul Newey
Paul Newey

Paul Newey had a T-5,000 chip in front of him on an {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop. Preben Stokkan put enough chips forward to put Newey all in and the Brit called it off for 14,000 total.

Preben Stokkan: {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Paul Newey: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

Newey was in great shape to double up and the {9-Hearts} on the turn kept him in front. Newey needed to dodge the eights and aces but the dealer burned and turned the {A-Diamonds} on the river to send him packing. The Brit will be going for a second attempt.

Teltscher Wins with Deuces

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

Max Silver raised to 1,000 and picked up three callers in Mark Teltscher, Markus Durnegger and Josip Simunic in the big blind. The board of {J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts} was checked down and Silver mucked. Simunic showed the {K-Diamonds} first followed by the {7-Spades} and Teltscher revealed {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}. "I didn't expect to win that one," the Brit joked.

Silver and Simunic remain among the biggest stacks in the field thus far, as half time has almost been reached on Day 1.

When we arrived at the table, Xixiang Luo had his remaining stack of 21,000 in front of him on a board of {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Gerald Karlic had already used one of his time banks.

After considering it for the better part of the extra minute, Karlic flung in five chips to make the call. Luo showed {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and Karlic tabled the winner with {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} to send the Chinese pro packing.

Durnegger Shoves on Jacobson

Level 3 : 150/300, 50 ante

Martin Jacobson is down one more time bank chip after a clash with Markus Durnegger. On a board reading {3-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}, Jacobson had 10,000 in front of him and Durnegger used one of his time banks before shoving all in.

Jacobson needed more time than the shot clock allowed and used another one of his time banks. With one second left, Jacobson ended up folding his hand.
