Mercier Applies Pressure on Kempe

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

On an {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} flop, Rainer Kempe bet 3,300 and Jason Mercier called in position. The turn was the {J-Diamonds} and Kempe continued with 5,800, which Mercier called as well.

The river brought the {J-Spades} and Kempe slowed down and checked. Mercier shoved all in for Kempe's remaining stack of 26,000 and the German folded his hand reluctantly.

Flush Under Flush Sets Back Antonius

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

On the finished board of {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}{Q-Spades}, Patrik Antonius bet 14,000 out of the big blind and Julian Thomas moved all in. "How much is it?" Antonius asked and soon after splashed in his entire chips.

Thomas turned over {A-Spades}{2-Spades} and Antonius said "nice, I have the king-high flush," with a sarcastic smile on the face while flipping over {K-Spades}{5-Spades}. Thomas, who is on his second bullet, doubled for 49,300 and Antonius was left short on 25 big blinds.

Pustoslemsek Flushes Out Peters

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Dejan Pustoslemsek
Dejan Pustoslemsek

In a hand versus David Peters, the American had checked to Dejan Pustoslemsek on an {8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{A-Spades}{6-Clubs} board. Pustoslemsek bet 6,500 and Peters called.

The river was the {A-Clubs}. Peters checked, Pustoslemsek bet 16,800 and Peters snap-called. Pustoslemsek showed {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for the nut flush and Peters mucked his hand.

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Guillaume Diaz, Marius Gierse and Thomas Muehloecker have been eliminated and the same applied for Pascal Hartmann, Ole Schemion and Alexander Uskov. The latter three all opted to fire the second bullet, though, boosting the number of re-entries to 16 already.

Value for Riess

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Ryan Riess raised to 1,700 and was called by Mustapha Kanit on the button and Tom-Aksell Bedell in the small blind called. On a flop of {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}, Bedell checked and Riess bet 3,200 and both opponents called.

The {6-Diamonds} turn was checked by all three players before Bedell also checked the {2-Diamonds} river. Riess made it 9,500 to go and Kanit looked over to see the stack of Bedell before tossing in two T-5,000 chips for the call. Bedell folded and Riess turned over {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for a full house to claim the pot.

The other big stack at the table is PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos, also on six digits.

Last Break for Day 1

Level 6 : 300/600, 100 ante

The High Rollers are heading into their next and final 15-minute break of the day, and one further level of 60 minutes each will be played for tonight. After that, many of them will likely head straight over to the stadium to watch AS Monaco take on Juventus Turin in the semi-final of the Champions League.

So far, the screens show 138 entries including 13 re-entries, and 106 players remain.

Just a Royal Flush

Level 6 : 300/600, 100 ante

Thomas Muehloecker had just three-barreled through a board of {3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Spades} and picked the worst possible timing, as Dmitry Yurasov called his shove on the river and tabled {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for a full house to double for another 39,175 in an already big pot.

Just then, Marius Gierse raised to 1,200 from under the gun and Vladimir Shabalin called on the button. On the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop, Gierse's continuation bet was met by a shove from Shabalin and Gierse called with the words "you really have aces? What are the odds, when I already have ace-ten suited."

Vladimir Shabalin: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}
Marius Gierse: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The {K-Spades} turn changed nothing, but the {Q-Hearts} river gave Gierse a royal flush to double for 6,950.

Sammartino Gets There, Haxton Out

Level 6 : 300/600, 100 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

Isaac Haxton's tournament has come to a brutal end at the hands of Dario Sammartino. In a button against small blind situation, Haxton had four-bet to 9,500 after Sammartino had put in a three-bet.

Sammartino five-bet shoved around 45,000 effectively. Haxton double-checked his hole cards before making the call.

Dario Sammartino: {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Isaac Haxton: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Sammartino's timing couldn't be much worse, although he picked up some outs after the {5-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Spades} flop.

The {J-Hearts} landed on the turn and Sammartino took the lead with two pair. Haxton just nodded when the jack appeared and nodded even more when the {J-Clubs} on the river improved the Italian to an improbable full house.

After counting the stacks, Haxton had slightly less than Sammartino and was eliminated. Sammartino couldn't hide a smile when stacking up Haxton's chips.

Lose One; Win Another

Level 6 : 300/600, 100 ante

With around 9,000 in the middle and the board showing {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, Adolfo Vaeza checked out of the small blind and Byron Kaverman bet 5,100. Vaeza then check-raised all in and Kaverman asked for a count. The shove was for 44,850 and Kaverman used one time bank to then fold with one second left. During that time, some table chat emerged.

"Will you shoe me if I fold?" Kaverman asked and Vaeza replied "If you call me, I have to show."

Back to Kaverman, who added "That is true. Well, you can throw them into the muck also."

Kaverman flashed the {Q-Hearts} and Vaeza simply raked in the pot with a smile on the face.

Right after in the next hand, short-stack Jan-Eric Schwippert jammed out of the small blind with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Kaverman called and tabled {K-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, which prompted Schwippert to joke "nice call." Kaverman would have the last laugh on this one, as the board came {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts} to give the American a flush.
