No Showdown Gruissem Keeps Building

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Philipp Gruissem opened to 7,000 and Dmitry Yurasov called, as did Oleh Okhotskyi in the big blind. The flop fell {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs} and the action checked to Yurasov. He bet 12,000 and Okhotskyi check-raised to 25,000 before Gruissem check-re-raised to 55,000. Yurasov waited until one second on his shot clock and folded, while Okhotskiy called.

On the {3-Diamonds} turn, Okhotskyi checked and Gruissem bet 45,000. Okhotskyi had less than that behind and used one time bank card before sending his cards into the muck.

El Asmar Exit

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Hady El Asmar's stack got chopped up in two hands, making him our 62nd place finisher. El Asmar lost the majority of his stack in the first hand against Charlie Carrel, where he opened and called a reshove from Carrel holding {A-Spades}{9-Spades}. Carrel had {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and held up to gobble up 39,900 in chips.

With 15,200 remaining, El Asmar found another {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and went all in again. This time, he got looked up by {A-}{J-} and lost the remainder of his stack.

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Colourful character Mustapha Kanit is on the floor at the PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino® to give Laura all his opinions on various other players. Comedy ensues as he also nearly loses his front teeth in this video due to a microphone malfunction.

Vogelsang Busts in Two Hands

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

On the river of a board {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, Christoph Vogelsang checked out of the big blind. Charlie Carrel moved all in for around 58,000 and Vogelsang had less than that behind. As played in previous hands, it was now Carrel that was hiding his face behind a scarf, mimicking the move of Vogelsang. The German eventually took a time bank card and folded.

One hand later, Vogelsang open-shoved for 31,000 from the small blind and Daniel Negreanu called out of the big blind.

Daniel Negreanu: {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Christoph Vogelsang: {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

The board came {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Vogelsang joined the rail. Mustapha Kanit and Muhyedine Fares were also eliminated.

It must be the money! Prizes for €25K HR announced at PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino®

Philipp Gruissem
Philipp Gruissem

On the most recent 15-minute break just outside of the Salle des Etoiles poker room here in Monaco, we saw the usual clusters.

Steffen Sontheimer, Stefan Schillhabel, Reiner Kempe and Dominik Nitsche - aka 'The Germans' - were huddled together by the fountain. Mike Watson, Sam Greenwood and Justin Bonomo were chatting away. Daniel Dvoress and Martin Jacobson were dashing back from the Monte Carlo Bay hotel. And Philipp Gruissem was showing Anton Morgenstern some karate kicks.

Haxton Loses a Big Pot to Jacobson

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Martin Jacobson is only trailing Vlado Bancevic by a few big blinds on his table after just taking a big pot off Isaac Haxton.

It started with a raise to 7,000 on the button by Haxton and a three-bet by Jacobson in the small blind for 23,500, which Haxton just called. On the {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop, both players checked. Jacobson bet the {10-Diamonds} turn for 32,000 and Haxton called before the Swede then checked the {7-Diamonds} river. Haxton bet for what looked like 77,000 with less than that behind, and Jacobson called.

Haxton turned over {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Jacobson had that beat with {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a straight.

Yurasov's Betsizing Fun

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

€25,500 Single Day High Roller winner Philipp Gruissem has been on a tear today but the German juggernaut just suffered a slight setback due to some Russian river magic.

In an already decent-sized pot, Gruissem had checked the river to Dmitry Yurasov. The Russian bet 55,500 on a {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{5-Spades} and Gruissem called it off.

As advertised, Yurasov showed {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for the rivered fives full and Gruissem mucked.

Down to 56 Players

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The seat of Anthony Zinno is now filled by Igor Kurganov as 56 players remain. Zinno lost his stack to Vladimir Shabalin, and the latter just faced the shove of Justin Bonomo in the small blind for 67,600. Shabalin let go and Bonomo shipped the pot, but is considerably down in chips.
