Ozdemir Leads Magnificent Seven at PokerStars Festival Bucharest Final Table

Anil Ozdemir
Anil Ozdemir

The final day of the PokerStars Festival Bucharest is here, and we are set to crown a winner here in the "Paris of the East."

A total of 736 players entered the Main Event, and now only seven remaining. They are lead by Turkey's Anil Ozdemir who is out in front with over nine million in chips in what he says is one of his first live tournament final tables.

Ozdemir could have bagged up a bigger chiplead were it not for Sam Grafton, who clawed some of Ozdemir's advantage back on his way to bagging up close to seven million.

The remaining five players are bunched together around two groups: those with around 30 big blinds, and those with around 15 big blinds. It remains to be seen what that will do to the pace of today's final table when they get underway at 1 p.m. local time.

Patrick Bueno

It was all-in pre between Patrick Bueno on the button holding {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} against Daniel Nietrzebka in the small blind holding {a-Spades}{k-Spades}.

Nietrzebka was still stacking his chips from his double up and he watched as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Hearts} with the Ace on the river eliminating Bueno.

Bueno had already cashed for €13,000 after finishing third in the MegaStack here in Bucharest at the end of July, and he added another €34,400 to that figure with another deep run.

Fahredin Mustafov Eliminated in 4th Place (€43,500); Daniel Nietrzebka Eliminated in 3rd Place (€57,600)

Anil Ozdemir opened to 250,000 from under the gun and Daniel Nietrzebka called on the button. Sam Grafton folded his small blind, and then the following happened within five seconds.

"All in," Mustafov said, shoving his stack of 2,485,000 in the middle.

"All in," Ozdemir said, sliding a tower of T-100,000 chips forward.

"All in," Nietrzebka said without hesitation, creating a pot of 75% of the chips in play just like that.

Fahredin Mustafov: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Anil Ozdemir: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Daniel Nietrzebka: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The room buzzed with excitement and the crowd got on their feet to watch the action unfold.

"The jack is coming, I'm not even worried," Ozdemir foreshadowed.

The dealer slowly dealt the {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{2-Spades} flop, which kept things exciting. Ozdemir did indeed flop the jack he needed but Nietrzebka was drawing very live with his overpair and the king-high flush draw. Mustafov was left drawing nearly dead and had just one out left: the king of clubs.

The {5-Spades} landed on the turn and Nietrzebka cheered in excitement. Mustafov was now officially drawing dead, Ozdemir could still pair the board to knock out two players at once.

"No full house!" yelled Nietrzebka when he suddenly realised Ozdemir could still make a full house to scoop.

The {2-Hearts} on the river did indeed pair the board and Ozdemir delivered the final blow to both Nietrzebka and Mustafov. Grafton was happy as well, moving up two spots on the leaderboard just like that.

Nietrzebka had more than Mustafov and finished 3rd for €57,600, Mustafov received €43,500 for his fourth place finish.

Grafton Doubles Through Ozdemir

Level 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Sam Grafton raised to 260,000, Anil Ozdemir three-bet to 950,000, and Grafton called. On the {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop, Ozdemir continued for 750,000 and Grafton came along with the call.

The turn was the {8-Hearts} and Ozdemir paused. After twenty seconds, he shoved all in and Grafton snap-called it off for his remaining 2,460,000.

Anil Ozdemir: {10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Sam Grafton: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

Ozdemir made a play with ten-deuce but ran into the pocket queens of Grafton. The Turk still had outs to win the tournament outright if he would catch a deuce, seven or ten on the river.

"Doyle Brunson?" asked Grafton.

"I love Doyle Brunson!" pipped Ozdemir.

The dealer burned and turned the river to reveal the {A-Spades}, and Grafton netted a full double-up.

"Nice match!" Ozdemir said shortly after the hand.

"Let's play on for a while," responded Grafton.

"Doyle Brunson hurts," Ozdemir said, realizing he lost a chunk of his stack with Brunson's trademarked hand.

"You need to be Doyle to make it work," lectured Grafton.

Sam Grafton

Anil Ozdemir raised to 300,000 and Sam Grafton three-bet to 1,050,000. Ozdemir called.

The flop came {6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Grafton checked and Ozdemir bet 800,000. Grafton called.

The turn was the {3-Hearts}. Grafton checked and Ozdemir bet 1,475,000. Grafton called.

The river was the {a-Spades}. Grafton checked for a third time and Ozdemir bet 3,550,000. Grafton swiftly called.

Ozdemir showed {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a set of sixes, but Grafton had turned a flush with {2-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to win the pot and take the chiplead for the first time in this heads-up contest.

Grafton Moves into Commanding Lead

Level 32 : 100,000/200,000, 25,000 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Anil Ozdemir continued his limping strategy and Sam Grafton raised to 900,000. Ozdemir called.

The flop was {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Grafton continued for 600,000. Ozdemir called. The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Grafton bet again for 1,605,000. Ozdemir called again.

On the river, which was the {5-Diamonds}, Grafton moved all in and Ozdemir went deep into the tank. He rubbed his forehead as he contemplated his decision. He picked up a small stack of chips, shuffled them, and placed them almost decisively back on the top of his stack. However, no sooner had he done that, he'd pick them up again and carry on shuffling.

"Two pair good," Ozdemir asked Grafton.

"Two pair?" said Grafton, "You can't fold two pair."

"One pair good?" continued the inquisitive Ozdemir.

"Depends which one," replied Grafton.

Eventually, Ozdemir pushed his cards forward.

"Ten-Jack?" asked Grafton.

"Ace-Ten," replied Ozdemir, "Was it good?" he asked, but Grafton didn't reply.

Anil Ozdemir Eliminated in 2nd Place (€96,993)

Level 32 : 100,000/200,000, 25,000 ante
Anil Ozdemir
Anil Ozdemir

After Sam Grafton took the commanding lead, three more hands were played before the tournament was over. In the first hand, Grafton limped in on the button, Anil Ozdemir shoved, and Grafton folded. Ozdemir open-shoved the second hand and Grafton folded again.

In the next hand, Grafton shoved and Ozdemir paused. He rubbed his head, looked at his stack, then, decisively, put a stack of green T-25,000 chips in the middle.

Sam Grafton: {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Anil Ozdemir: {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}

"Queen-jack!" an excited Ozdemir yelled. He stood up, clapped his hands and awaited his fate being dealt.

The {10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop helped neither player, keeping Grafton in the lead with his king-high. The {J-Diamonds} on the turn, however, gave Ozdemir a substantial lead in the hand. Now Grafton was the one needing to improve, and he needed to catch a king or queen to win the tournament.

The crowd flocked around the rail at the table to watch the dealer flip the {Q-Clubs} on the river. Grafton rivered a king-high straight to oust Ozdemir's rivered two pair. Ozdemir and Grafton gave each other a big hug, striking for the good atmosphere at this final table.

The joyful Turk, who started the day as the chipleader, saw his incredible run come to an end in 2nd place. After the earlier deal, he received €96,993, by far the biggest score of his career.

With that, Sam Grafton is the PokerStars Festival Bucharest Main Event champion! An extensive recap and an interview with the winner follow shortly.
