Obara Takes Some Off Cheung; Muthu Folds to Shove

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

The {10-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} turn saw Sparrow Cheung check his option in the big blind and Jun Obara did so from the button before Cheung also checked the {10-Diamonds} river. Obara bet 35,000 into a pot of 40,000 and Cheung folded.

Soon after, Pete Chen made it 7,000 to go and Shatesh Muthu three-bet to 21,000 on the button. Chen moved all in for another 41,900 on top of that and Muthu folded.

Matloubi Doubles Through Chen

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Mansour Matloubi raised to 7,000 from under the gun and Pete Chen three-bet to 18,000 from two seats over. The action folded back to Matloubi and he moved all in for 69,000, which Chen quickly called.

Mansour Matloubi: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Pete Chen: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

On the {7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop, Chen asked for diamonds, but he was drawing dead to win the pot as soon as the {3-Clubs} turn hit the felt. This made the {10-Clubs} river a sheer formality and Chen had to forfeit half of his stack.

The Action Slows Down

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

With two eight-handed tables after the redraw, the action has slowed down significantly and there are no all in and a call everyy other hand. The stacks of Simon Burns and Mansour Matloubi plummeted while Shengyu Li claimed a pot without showdown by betting 40,000 on the river of a board {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{J-Spades} to force a fold from his sole opponent.

Cheung Loses Flip Time-Bank Chips; Gets Shown Bluff

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Until the river of a board {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{2-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, more than 80,000 were in the pot already and Jun Obara moved all in for 135,000. Sparrow Cheung was his only opponent and had six time-bank chips left. He would use the first one, then the second one, and started table chat. "Do you have a jack? Ace-king?"

Obara gave no answer, and Cheung proceeded to use the time bank chips number three, four and five. He saved the last one, though, and ultimately folded, and another player at the table demanded "show the bluff!" Obara did so, flashing {A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, and Cheung sighed loudly.

Cheung Busts Lau in Big APOY Showdown

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Alan Lau
Alan Lau

Alan Lau kept a short stack for quite some time and eventually moved all in from early position. Fellow Asian Player of the Year leaderboard candidate Sparrow Cheung in the small blind reshoved and the big blind let go.

Alan Lau: {A-Spades}{10-Spades}
Sparrow Cheung: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and the kicker played to eliminate Lau. While Cheung remains below average, he gave Lau one less chance to score vital points.

Edoc and Zhu Eliminated

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Celine Lee's flopped nut flush with {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} was more than enough to claim the stack of Xingbiao Zhu, who had set his hopes on a king-high nut flush draw with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} only to find himself drawing dead. Soon after one table over, the next player would run out of chips.

Lester Edoc got his remaining stack in after the turn of a board {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades} with the {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Sathesh Muthu turned over the {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and the {6-Diamonds} river was a blank. Muthu has become the dominating chip leader and there are just 17 players remaining.
