Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Ravi Sheth

Day 2 of the PokerStars Open Manchester Main Event, running at the Deansgate Hotel and hosted by Hippodrome Casino, has now drawn to a close. After 10 levels of action, 49 players have bagged and tagged to return for Day 3.

A total of 927 entries were made to the tournament across four starting flights and, including late regs, 381 sat down at the start of Day 2 to compete for their share of the £1,000,000 prize pool.

Ravi Sheth came out on top, bagging a total of 1,810,000. Sheth has a few five-figure scores over the last few years and is now well on track to beat his previous best of €16,500 for finishing 16th in the 2024 EPT Monte Carlo €2,200 FPS High Roller.

Sheth is trailed by Jay O'Leary, who managed to maintain and grow his stack gradually throughout the day to bag in second place with 1,600,000 chips.

United Kingdom pro Jack Hardcastle, who has over $2.4 million in live winnings, bagged in third with 1,030,000, while 2023 UKIPT Blackpool Main Event winner Tuan Le finished in fourth. Hasmukh Khodiyara rounds out the top five.

Other notables who found the bag for Day 3 include PokerStars Ambassador Kenny Hallaert (735,000), Antoine Labat (570,000), Michel Molenaar (445,000) and Andrew Hulme (230,000), along with UKIPT winners Brett Angell (470,000) and Christopher Yong (45,000).

Ian Simpson wasn't so fortunate. After starting Day 2 as the chip leader, his aces were cracked by ace-king inside the money to bust out in 78th place.

At least Simpson made the money. Alex Todd didn't. He was eliminated on the stone bubble when he ran his pocket kings into aces. The rest of the players locked up at least a min-cash. Below are the remaining payouts when players return.

Andrew Hulme: A7 All in
Hasmukh Khodiyara: KK

Hulme was well behind as Khodiyara showed his overpair and it looked like he was set for a bustout. The turn was a blank, the 6, and the river came the A to give Hulme a pair of aces on the river. He won the pot and doubled his stack as the day drew to a close.

Mohamed Kerkeni
Mohamed Kerkeni

Mohamed Kerkeni open-raised from middle position and Marc Fuses three-bet to 50,000 from the small blind. Kerkeni four-bet to 150,000 before Fuses five-bet all in, sending Kerkeni deep into the tank.

Eventually, the floor was called and the countdown began. Kerkeni eventually made the call, players commenting that the whole process took around five minutes. In the end, it was a flip as players flipped their cards.

Marc Fuses: QQ

Kerkeni quickly took the lead as the board ran out A5348 to give him a pair of aces. He won the pot to double up his stack.

Hallaert Shows River Bluff

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

Action was on the turn on a board of 2376 and Kenny Hallaert led with a bet of 75,000. Bogdan-Alexandru Ionescu made the call.

The river came the Q and Hallaert took a moment before announcing that he was "all in" with Ionescu covered for 240,000 effective. Ionescu went deep into the tank.

"I want to call you with ace-eight," said Ionescu.

"All good," replied Hallaert.

Ionescu eventually mucked his hand and Hallaert couldn't help but table A5 for a bluff with a gutshot. If Ionescu did indeed have ace-eight, he would have been ahead. As it happened, Hallaert scooped in a large pot.

Start of Day 2 Chip Leader Ian Simpson Gets Aces Cracked to Bust

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ian Simpson
Ian Simpson

"All in and call!", shouted the dealer. It was Ian Simpson, all in for around 185,000 against Christopher Cunliffe, who looked him up from the next seat with the covering stack.

Ian Simpson: AA All in
Christopher Cunliffe: AK

The flop came 8Q8 and Simpson looked pretty safe, although he pointed out the backdoor heart possibilities. The turn came the 10 and Cunliffe shouted out for a "jack!".

The river was a miraculous J, which gave Cunliffe the broadway straight. He cracked Simpson's aces to scoop in a huge pot that puts Cunliffe towards the top of the counts.

Simpson, who started Day 2 as the chip leader, was eliminated in 78th place.

Todd Runs Kings Into Aces to Burst Bubble

Level 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Alex Todd
Alex Todd

After a few rounds of all in and calls that resulted in double ups, Alex Todd raised from under the gun and Ricky Murphy three-bet to 35,000 from the button. Todd moved all in for 88,000 and Murphy called. The action was frozen until the TD announced the hand and players flipped their cards.

Alex Todd: KK All in
Ricky Murphy: AA

In a brutal bubble cooler, Todd had run his pocket kings into aces. The flop came 10A4 to improve Murphy's hand to a set of aces. Todd was drawing extremely slim as the 9 turn and 3 river ended his tournament chances. He was eliminated on the stone bubble as Murphy dragged in the pot.

Ross Boatman
Ross Boatman

Iosif-Daniel Spulber was all in preflop for 117,000 against Ross Boatman, who had him very slightly covered as the cards were turned.

Iosif-Daniel Spulber: AA All in
Ross Boatman: KK

It was the sickest of coolers near the bubble, as Boatman's pocket kings ran into Spulber's aces. Nothing changed on a board of 23J67 as Spulber held to win the pot.

Boatman was left with just 9,000 chips and lost them in a multiway pot in the next hand.
