Lara Eisenberg Leads Final 28 In Event #6: $400 Monster Triple Stack

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Lara Eisenberg
Lara Eisenberg

After 22 Levels of play on day 1 of Event #6: $400 Monster Triple Stack at the Potomac Winter Poker Open just 28 players remain from an initial field of 275. Leading those 28 players is Lara Eisenberg, sitting on a massive stack of 2,685,000. That places her well in front of Jacob Mitich in second who was able to amass 1,830,000 during the day's play. Minwoo Ahn (1,725,000) rounds out the top three.

The tournament drew a total of 275 entries to generate a prizepool of $91,770. Each of the 30 players who receives a portion of that prizepool is guaranteed at least $597 with $22,298 reserved for the eventual winner.

It took until the final level of play for the money bubble to burst when Dave Helpard outflipped his opponent to bring the tournament down to just 30 players. Two more eliminations occurred in the final few minutes before the remaining 28 players bagged up for the night.

Eisenberg struggled to gain momentum early in the day, at one point being down to just 40,000. That all changed, however, as the afternoon progressed and by the dinner break, Eisenberg was among the big stacks in the room. That momentum only continued to grow as the night wore on, with Eisenberg making good use of her big stack during bubble play to put some distance between herself and the rest of the field.

The day 2 hopefuls will return at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1st at which point they will play down to a winner. Levels will continue to be 30 minutes in length with play resuming at Level 23 with blinds of 20,000/40,000 with a 40,000 big blind ante. Be sure to stay tuned as the Pokernews live reporting team brings its coverage of Event #6: 400 Monster Triple Stack at the Potomac Winter Poker Open to a conclusion.

Helpard Bursts the Bubble

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Dave Helpard
Dave Helpard

A player moved all in from under the gun and was called by Dave Helpard in middle position.

Under The Gun Player: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Dave Helpard: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

It was a classic race on the pure bubble with the under the gun player needing to win to avoid becoming the bubble boy. The {2-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} flop, while keeping the at risk player ahead, did give Helpard a flush draw. The {5-Diamonds} turn changed nothing but the {4-Spades} river improved Helpard to a flush to eliminate the under the gun player and burst the bubble.

Arnwine Makes a Straight

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

A player moved the remainder of his chips into the middle from under the gun and was called by Justin Arnwine on the button.

Under The Gun Player: {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Justin Arnwine: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The at risk player remained ahead on the {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Spades} flop and {10-Spades} turn but Arnwine made a straight on the {j-Clubs} river to eliminate his opponent and bring the tournament to the pure bubble.
