Eisenberg Eliminates Matei

Level 21 : Blinds 12,000/24,000, 24,000 ante
Lara Eisenberg
Lara Eisenberg

Lara Eisenberg limped from early position as did Roger Laing on the button and the small blind. Dan Matei then moved all in for his last 94,000 from the big blind and was only called by Eisenberg.

Dan Matei: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Lara Eisenberg: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Eisenberg was marginally ahead but Matei took the lead on a flop of {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The {a-Spades} turn flipped the tables back around and Matei headed to the exits just shy of the money after the {9-Hearts} river completed the board.

After the hand was over, a player at the table suggested Eisenberg needed to 'regain her confidence' to which she responded 'I feel confident'. Given Eisenberg's chip stack, it seems the WSOP bracelet winner is, in fact, playing with a great deal of confidence.

Dike Goes Runner-Runner

Level 21 : Blinds 12,000/24,000, 24,000 ante

Jim Dike moved all in from middle position before a player in the cutoff called off with the shorter stack. The remaining players got out of the way and the cutoff was officially at risk.

Cutoff Player: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Jim Dike: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

The cutoff would need to win a flip to survive and pulled into a commanding lead following the {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop. The {2-Hearts} turn did give Dike a flush draw and it came in on the {a-Hearts} river to eliminate the cutoff close to the bubble in cruel fashion.

Matei Scores Knockout

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Picking up the action partway through the hand, a player in the small blind was all in and at risk against Dan Matei in middle position.

Small Blind Player: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Dan Matei: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The small blind player would need to win a flip to survive but fell far behind on the {10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{q-Hearts} flop. Nothing changed on the {3-Diamonds} turn or {6-Hearts} river to send the small blind player packing while keeping Matei chipping up as one of the big stacks in the room.

Mitich Outraces Opponent

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Jacob Mitich opened to 45,000 from middle position and faced an all in shove for 158,000 from a player in the cutoff. He quickly called with the covering stack to put his opponent at risk.

Cutoff Player: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Jacob Mitich: {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

It was a coinflip with Mitich needing to hit to win. The at risk player maintained their lead through the {2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop and {q-Hearts} turn but it was Mitich who ended the hand ahead after the {k-Spades} rolled off the deck on the river.

Break Time

Level 19 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

The remaining 45 players have been sent on a 15-minute break. They will return to blinds of 10,000/20,000 with a 20,000 big blind ante at which stage the money bubble will begin to loom large.

Arnwine Chops It Up

Level 19 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Justin Arnwine opened to 35,000 from middle position and the player to his immediate left moved all in for their last 189,000. Action folded back around to Arnwine who made the call with the covering stack to put his opponent at risk.

Middle Position Player: {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
Justin Arnwine: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

The at risk player was dominated and asked the dealer for a chop to survive No help came for the middle position player on the {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop or {9-Clubs} turn but the {3-Diamonds} river meant that Arnwine's superior kicker did not play and as a result, the pot was split between the two players.

Two Barrels Good For Borgata

Level 19 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

James Borgata opened to 34,000 from early position and was called by the big blind.

The big blind checked to the preflop aggressor after the flop came {3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Borgata continued for 22,000. His opponent was not going anywhere just yet and made the call.

Borgata did not slow down after the big blind checked to him following the {8-Spades} turn, instead counting out a bet of 55,000. That was enough to elicit a fold from his opponent to hand Borgata a small pot.
