Aguilera Spikes River to Stay Alive

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Nick Aguilera
Nick Aguilera

Jeffrey Newman raised to 50,000 from middle position and Nick Aguilera moved all in from the big blind for 168,000. Newman quickly called.

Newman: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Aguilera: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

With the defending champion at risk, the {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop opened up some runner-runner outs, and when the {3-Diamonds} landed on the turn, Aguilera would need any ace, queen or six to stay alive.

Fortunately for him, the river landed the {Q-Hearts} to ensure a double to over 360,000 in chips.

Shiarla's Flopped Straight Rivered by Cloninger

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Loren Cloninger
Loren Cloninger

From the button, Mario Lopez raised to 40,000 and both Loren Cloninger and Eric Shiarla called in the blinds.

The flop of {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs} saw Cloninger lead out for 110,000 with Shiarla calling and Lopez folding.

The turn fell the {9-Spades} and Cloninger moved all in for 262,000 with Shiarla snap-calling.

Cloninger: {A-Spades}{4-Spades}
Shiarla: {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

With Cloninger needing a spade to stay alive, the river would fall the {7-Spades} to ensure he rivered his flush to double through Shiarla and climb to 882,000 in chips.

Mike Sippola opened to 36,000 from under the gun and Chad Holloway called next to act before Jason Somerville moved all in for 342,000 from the button. Sippola called all in for his final 320,000 and Holloway folded.

Sippola: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Somerville: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs} to see Sippola eliminated in 19th place as Somerville jumped to over 730,000.

Holloway Shows the Semi-Bluff

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Chad Holloway vs Paul Sampson
Chad Holloway vs Paul Sampson

A player under the gun limped in, and Chad Holloway followed suit on the button. Paul Sampson in the small blind made it 75,000, and Holloway thought it over after the first player folded.

"I do have position," he mused.

"And I'm a weak player," Sampson said.

"I know better," Holloway said. "I do my research, I know you were the chip leader."

Holloway decided to call and the two saw a {q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop. Sampson fired 100,000, and Holloway called. The turn was an {a-Spades} and Sampson checked. Holloway immediately moved all in. It was 525,000 effective, and Sampson tanked about three minutes.

"You look so nervous, man," he said. "Are you even breathing?"

Eventually, Sampson mucked his hand, and Holloway turned over {7-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Hoffman Halts Gomez

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Jason Somerville opened to 35,000 from middle position and Jef Hoffman moved all in for 381,000 in the cutoff. Jonny Gomez called all in for 133,000 and Somerville folded.

Gomez: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Hoffman: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} flop saw Hoffman take the lead, and when the {7-Diamonds} and {8-Clubs} completed the board, Gomez hit the rail in 20th place.

Shiarla Starts 3rd, Finishes 1st; Caswell Exits

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Eric Shiarla
Eric Shiarla

A huge three-way all in saw Eric Shiarla all in for his last 174,000 against Randall Caswell and Mario Lopez who covered both.

Lopez: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Caswell: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Shiarla: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Although Shiarla was running last, the {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop thrust him into the lead, and when the turn and river landed the {2-Clubs} and {5-Hearts}, he tripled up as Caswell was eliminated and Lopez won a small side pot.

Moss Eliminated; Aguilera Doubles Twice

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Nick Aguilera
Nick Aguilera

From what we could see, Blake Vincent raised on the button and called a three-bet from big blind Reuben Moss, and Moss shoved 269,000 in on a {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop. When we got to the table, Vincent decided on a call, at which point Moss shook his head.

Moss: {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Vincent: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Moss needed a nine or a queen, but the turn and river were {a-Clubs} then {3-Clubs}.

At the neighboring table, Nick Aguilera doubled up twice, according to Brian Ebert. Aguilera was grinding short but is now in a position where he is a major threat to repeat as champ here.
