Triple Stud Champ Takes on TABLECAPTAINN

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Joe Brindle, who last night won the RIU Reno VIII Triple Stud event, raised to 2,600 from the hijack and called when Eric "TABLECAPTAINN" Wemlinger, who finished runner up to Donnie McCormick in the Black Chip Bounty, three-bet to 6,600 from the button.

Both players checked the {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop and the {9-Hearts} appeared on the turn. Brindle checked again and folded when Wemlinger tossed out a bet of 6,000.

Rhodes Holds Over Mastic

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A player raised to 2,800 from the lojack, and Phillip Rhodes called in the hijack. Alan Mastic three-bet to 7,000 from the cutoff, and after the lojack folded, Rhodes tossed in a call.

Rhodes checked the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop over to Mastic, who bet 8,000. Rhodes called.

Both players checked the {6-Diamonds} turn and {9-Diamonds} river, and Rhodes tabled {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a pair of aces. Mastic mucked.

Townsend Wins Flip to Double Through Mazza

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Mark Mazza moved all in for 18,600 under the gun and Shannon Townsend called off for 13,700 from the cutoff. The button and blinds all folded and it was off to the races.

Townsend: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Mazza: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Mazza was looking to hold to score the knockout, but that proved easier said than done as the {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop paired Townsend. Neither the {5-Spades} turn nor {q-Spades} river was the seven Mazza needed and he was left with just 4,900 after the hand.

Fortunately, two doubles shortly thereafter allowed him to spin it up to 20K.

Petzing Protects His Set

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A player led out for 4,000 from the small blind facing a {4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} board, and six-time Run It Up Reno champ Jimmy Cappucci called in the big blind. Jim Petzing tossed in a raise to 17,000 from UTG+1, and the small blind thought for a bit before kicking his cards away. Cappucci quickly folded, and Petzing slammed his {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} on the felt.

"That's what I kinda figured," the small blind told Petzing, who later said he laid down "a big ace" to Petzing.

"I'm not letting you guys draw out on me!" Petzing said with a smile.

Sylvia Bets Into Pocket Rockets

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Just before the level went up, Jesse Sylvia raised to 2,300 from middle position and Vito Distefano flatted from the cutoff. The button and blinds all folded and it was heads-up action to the {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop.

Sylvia continued for 2,500, Distefano called, and the {4-Hearts} appeared on the turn. Again Sylvia bet, this time 6,000, and against Distefano just called.

When the {q-Spades} completed the board on the river, Sylvia bet a final time to the tune of 11,000 and Distefano snap-called.

Sylvia turned over the {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for tens and fives but it was no good as Distefano had the {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} in the hole.

"You Gotta Have Balls, Baby!"

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Bryan Watkins
Bryan Watkins

Bryan Watkins, who finished 20th in the 2003 WSOP Main Event won by Chris Moneymaker, checked a {q-Spades}{5-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Spades} board from UTG+1, and the lojack bet 4,500. Jon Cockey jammed for 16,400, and Watkins went into the tank. Eventually, a clock was called, and around ten seconds into the clock, he tossed calling chips in. The lojack then jammed for 9,200 more, and Watkins called that bet as well.

Watkins: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Cockey: {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Lojack: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

The lojack's Broadway straight, combined with Watkins' ace-high flush draw, had Cockey drawing dead. Watkins was looking for a spade to win or a jack to chop. The {8-Spades} fell on the river, and Watkins exploded with a "YEAH BABY! COME ON!"

Watkins began to stack up the chips from his double knockout, then said, "What did Amir Vahedi used to say? You gotta have balls, baby!" with a wide grin on his face.

Lagodich Gets A Double Through Liu

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

With 7,000 already in the middle, Frank Lagodich checked a {6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Clubs} flop from the small blind, and Sasha Liu bet 3,500 from UTG. Lagodich check-raised to 8,900, and Liu went into the tank. After a few minutes, she jammed for Lagodich's last 28,300 total, and he snapped her off.

Lagodich: {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Liu: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

Lagodich faded the two-outer on the {4-Hearts} turn and {j-Hearts} river to double.
