Cody Krause waited until the last hand to seize the chip lead on Day 1c of the $250 Roughrider Poker Tour Casino State Championship.
Krause woke up with aces in a three-way all in to bust Erik Kalfell and Steve Belland on the money bubble, bringing the field down to the final 30 players and catapulting his stack up to 735,000, putting him atop the overall chip leaderboard after three starting flights.

Cash Mitchell ended up just a few chips behind Krause with 724,000. Mitchell was also helped by a double knockout, limping in with two kings and then shoving on Lance Zietz who called for 160,000 with ace-king. Mitchell remained in the lead to take out Zietz and Thane Fliginger in a massive pot.
Leah Harper knocked out two players on the last level, first hitting a full house to bust Camron Millang and then picking up kings against Dale McDonough’s ace-king as she ended up with 452,000 and in third place. Leonardo Valenzuela (441,000) and Daryl Oppelt (356,000) round out the top five.
Several players who survived one of the two flights yesterday were also in action today, and eight of them found another bag. Duff Diseth ended today with 316,000, ahead of the 141,000 he finished yesterday with. Brent Slaubaugh bagged for the third flight in a row, his 279,000 on Day 1c his highest stack yet. Wayne Wentz (183,000) also bettered his stack, while Andrew Taylor (178,000), Keith Rickford (119,000), Tim McFarland (110,000), Justin Fowler (60,000), and Katie Fowler (54,000) will have their short stacks from today taken out of play in return for $710 at the start of Day 2.
Just like yesterday’s Day 1b, today’s flight ended right at the end of Level 14. The action on Day 2 is still expected to begin at the start of Level 15 with blinds of 4,000/8,000 and an 8,000 big blind ante unless one of the three remaining flights ends earlier.
The 237 entries on Day 1c brought the field up to 599 through three starting flights. Day 1d is currently underway with 120 entries, and with two starting flights tomorrow expected to be the biggest yet, the field should far exceed last year’s total of 1,235. A total of 66 players have already secured their tickets for Day 2 on January 4.
