Jesse McVicker

Day 1a saw 125 players pony up $675 and push the 2015 RunGood Poker Series Hard Rock Tulsa Main Event prize pool to over 80% of the $100,000 guarantee, with two starting flights still to play.

After 12 levels of play at 30 minutes per, it was Jesse McVicker with a substantial chip lead, as he bagged a healthy 254,000. Other notables to advance to Sunday's Day 2 are Tony Lay (140,000), Dan Lowery (119,000), Ross Bybee (106,000), and Ryan Tepen (35,000).

Many notables tried and failed to get through Day 1 on their first attempt, including Dan "Wretchy" Martin, Lauren Kling, Bryan Campanello, and Jonathan Gaviao. Nevertheless, they'll all have chances to fire again on subsequent starting days.

In all, 30 players did advance and will combine with survivors of Saturday's two flights to play Day 2, which starts at noon local time on Sunday. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as we will bring you coverage from an expected busy Saturday all the way through to crowning a champion on Sunday.

Lowery Eight One Up

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Dan Lowery
Dan Lowery

Dan Lowery raised to 6,000 from under the gun and Ryan Tepen made the call, only to be met with a raise to 17,500. Matt Newcombe moved all in for his last 13,900 and Lowery moved all in when action came back to him. The original raiser thought for a moment, as Lowery had him covered. He decided not to risk his tournament life and left Lowery and Newcombe heads up.

Lowery: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Newcombe: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Lowery stayed good as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and it was showers for Newcombe.

Panzica is Bounced

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

A preflop three-way all in with Melinda Hettick, Sam Panzica and Terry Presley ended badly for one and fairly well for the other two.

Hettick: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Presley: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Panzica: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Hettick was all in for the least and Presley had both players covered. The {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop brought relief for Hettick and the {9-Diamonds} turn and {j-Diamonds} river secured the side pot for Presley. Hettick tripled and Panzica hit the rail.

A couple of RunGood pros just couldn't get it going today and both Lauren Kling and Jonathan Gaviao recently exited the tournament area without any chips.

Spriggs Busts Two

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 300 ante
Rodney Spriggs
Rodney Spriggs

Rodney Spriggs opened to 4,300 from middle position and the player in the cutoff called. The player on the button reraised all in to 11,300 and Spriggs four-bet to 23,300, with his other opponent shipping all in. Spriggs snap-called and tabled {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. The original shover tabled {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and the five-bettor showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

They were looking for clubs or diamonds but got nothing but heartache when the {a-Spades}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop all but sealed it for Spriggs. The board completed with {7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Spriggs is up over 100,000.
