Koch Applies Pressure

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Mykel Comroe opened to 5,000 from early position and action folded around to Jamie Strickland, who called out of the small blind. Kevin Koch was in the big blind and squeezed, three-betting to 17,000. Comroe called and Strickland folded to take postflop action heads up.

The dealer fanned a flop of {9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and Koch quickly put out a continuation-bet for 15,000. Comroe sent his cards to the muck just as quickly and Koch took down the pot, surpassing 250K in chips along the way.

Burford Nearing 200,000

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Mark Burford opened to 5,000 from early position and received a call from a player in middle position. Mykel Comroe also called from the cutoff, as did the players on the button and in both blinds. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades} and all six players checked.

The turn fell {3-Hearts} and the small blind led out with a bet of 5,000. the big blind folded and Burford and the middle-position player both called. Comroe and the player on the button then proceeded to fold, taking action three ways to the final card.

The river was {2-Spades} and all three players checked to take the hand to showdown.

"I missed," said the small blind, tabling {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Burford then showed {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a pair of queens and the final player in the hand mucked, earning him the pot and sending his stack to what appears to be around 187,000 in chips.

Blanton Toasted; Koch Nearing a Quarter-Million

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Mykel Comroe
Mykel Comroe

Ken Blanton shoved all in for his last 20,000 or so from under the gun and action folded around to Mykel Comroe, who checked his cards from the small blind and announced he was all in over the top. The big blind got out of their way and hands were tabled.

Ken Blanton: {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Mykel Comroe: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The board ran out {j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, giving Blanton outs at a chop on the turn that never came. As a result, he found himself eliminated from the tournament nearing the end of Level 10 as the last of his chips were sent to Comroe after winning the pot due to his queen kicker.

Meanwhile, tablemate Kevin Koch has amassed a stack that appears to be just shy of the quarter-million mark. He caught up for a moment when away from the table during another hand, stating that he was simply riding the waves as they came and looked forward to the prospects of riding a big stack into Day 2.

Strickland Begs Opponent To Call

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

A player raised to 5,000 from under the gun and saw action fold around to Jamie Strickland, who called from the button. The two went heads up to the flop {3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, where action went check-check.

The turn came {6-Clubs} and the under-the-gun player checked again. Strickland threw out a bet of 5,500 and his opponent thought for about 20 seconds before letting his cards go.

"Call," Strickland said in a commanding, yet neither firm nor rude manner. He showed {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} to accompany the command, putting out the challenge for future battles at the felt. Despite appearing to have lost a bit of chips from his earlier total of around 150,000, Strickland still finds himself sitting comfortably with just over an hour of play left in the evening.

Williams Sends Poe To the Rail

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Demond Williams
Demond Williams

Robert Poe went all in for his last 3,500 and received five calls, two of which were Demond Williams in the hijack and Bryan Chaler in the big blind. The flop came {6-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{5-Spades} and action checked to Williams, who put out a bet of 10,000 and got everybody else left in the hand to fold.

Robert Poe: {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Demond Williams: {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

WIlliams had flopped two pair and needed to fade running cards to score the knockout and shatter Poe's hopes of a sextuple and more. The turn came {5-Clubs} to further improve him to a full house, leaving Poe drawing dead as the river {10-Hearts} came to complete the runout and send him to the rail.

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Andrew Dosser shoved all in from the cutoff for his last 20,000 or so over a middle-position limper and received action from Magee Burns, who was in the big blind. The limper folded and the two turned up their hands for the runout.

Andrew Dosser: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Magee Burns: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, with Burns' king kicker proving the difference to earn him the pot as Dosser was sent to the rail a handful of minutes into Level 10.
