"Farmer" Phil Mader Back on the Felt

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Phil Mader
Phil Mader

Phil Mader, who earned the nickname "Farmer" during his deep run in the 2013 WSOP Main Event, is looking to continue adding to his impressive $875,866 in lifetime tournament earnings here this weekend, and he's no stranger to success in the RunGood Poker Series.

All three of Mader's cashes on tour have been here at Horseshoe Council Bluffs, and both were final table performances. After a fifth-place finish in 2016's $1,100 Main Event, Mader came back for more in 2017's $555 Main Event. Mader was able to navigate a tough field all the way down to the final three places, where he, along with Greg Jennings and Mark Fink, negotiated a three-way deal to lock down a $21,918 payday. He also cashed for $1,384 this past June here, taking 47th place in the series Main Event.

Can Mader push through another tough field and make a run at another RunGood Poker Series Final Table? We'll keep you updated on his progress as the day progresses.

Adrian Griffith in Day 1a action

Adrian Griffith opened to 2,200 in early position and was three-bet to 6,000 from the player on his direct left. Action folded back to Griffith and he called.

The flop dropped {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Griffith jammed for 14,200. His opponent thought for a full minute, lifting his cards off of the felt twice to look back at them in a visibly uncomfortable manner before folding.

Falcone Gets a Dub

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Landon Falcone
Landon Falcone

A newly-seated player raised in early position, having a T-5,000 chip displayed in front of him before Landon Falcone re-jammed for 4,600 in middle position. Action folded back to the original raiser, who looked at Falcone's stack for a quick second to do the math before calling.

Falcone: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Opponent: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}

Falcone doubled with ease on a runout of {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and now finds himself with more than 10 big blinds after being critically short moments prior.

Under the gun opened the action with a raise to 1,600 and received calls from middle position, the cutoff, and the small blind.

Kelly Cortum was in the big blind and announced he was all in, sliding his stack of 13,500 forward onto the felt. One by one, each player thought for a few moments and then let their hands go, earning Cortum the pot preflop and increasing his stack by around 50% in the process.

Steuer Sends One to the Showers

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
RGPS $420 Golden Ticket Main Event Champion Nathan Steuer
RGPS $420 Golden Ticket Main Event Champion Nathan Steuer

November 2021 RGPS Council Bluffs $420 Golden Ticket Main Event winner Nate Steuer raised to 1,100 in early position and action folded around to the small blind, who three-bet to 2,200. Steuer called.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} and the small blind continuation-bet 3,000. Steuer called.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and the small blind checked. Steuer put out 15,000, more than enough to put his opponent all in, and a call was made.

Small Blind: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Steuer: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Steuer's top pair needed to fade the case queen to cede the double as well as the four jacks in the deck that would bring a chop, and he did just that as the {2-Hearts} completed the runout to earn him the pot and the knockout.

Crisp Wins at Showdown Three Ways

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Lloyd Crisp opened the action with a raise to 1,100 and saw calls from the cutoff, player on the button, and big blind.

All four players checked to {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{a-Hearts} and the big blind checked again. Crisp bet 2,100 and the cutoff folded before the player on the button and big blind called, and all three players checked the river {6-Diamonds} to take the hand to showdown.

Crisp turned over {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} and both other players in the hand mucked, earning him the pot with sixes full.

Foster Chips Up With Bullets

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Matthew Chvala opened to 1,200 in early position and was three-bet to 2,500 by Mary Foster, who was on the button. Chvala called.

"Check," announced Chvala before the dealer brought a flop of {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. Foster continuation-bet 4,000 and Chvala called.

The turn came {10-Hearts} and Chvala check-called another 4,000. Both players then checked the river {6-Spades} to take the hand to showdown.

Chvala tabled {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and was shown {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} by Foster, whose aces earned the pot.
