Day 1a Completed
Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Contenders Tour Council Bluffs $575 Main Event saw 252 entries, a field that generated a full room of tables with an alternate list that had to form some 90 minutes prior to cards going in the air for the day. Nearly 13 levels were played to their conclusion in order to bring the field size down to a manageable total for Sunday's Day 2, and 38 players ultimately made it through the day.
Of those 38, Isidro Sandoval saw himself finish atop the counts with a finishing stack of 331,000. Sandoval was seen around 200K after registration closed for the evening and remained as one of the top stacks in the room for the last two-plus hours of play before winning a pot on the final hand of the night to take himself well clear of the other 37 players in the field.
Nobody else besides Sandoval finished above 300K, though six players did bag 200K or more: Nick Barksdale (241,500), Mike Henrich (216,500), Jacob Long (212,500), Brad Cohen (207,500), Anthony Scarborough (204,500), and Donald Nimneh (200,000).
Other notables to advance included Ryan Phan (175,500), Lawrence Prevost (161,500), RunGood Ambassador Blair Hinkle (74,500), and Kerry Hildebrand (48,500).
Plenty more failed to get through, including RunGood Ambassador Grant Hinkle, Johnnie Moreno, Taylor Howard, Brian Frenzel, and Mo Nuwwarah. All who have yet to find a bag will have two more chances Saturday, as Day 1b starts at 11 a.m. local time and will be followed up by Day 1c at 6 p.m.
PokerNews will be back on the floor tomorrow all day long, so be sure to come back and follow along as the action unfolds.
A total of 38 players wound up making it through Day 1a with Isidro Sandoval (331,000) bagging the chip lead. An end-of-day recap will be posted shortly.

A pair of eliminations occurred in the blink of an eye to bring the field down to 41, just one elimination from ending play for the evening. Just a moment later, a dealer was heard calling for an open seat as a pot was shipped to Isidro Sandoval, who had king-queen on a queen-high board. Sandoval stated after the hand that the player had a flush draw that failed to complete, and he appears to have around 328,000 to end the day.
The 40 remaining players are in the process of racing off the T-100 chips before bagging and tagging. Stay tuned for end-of-day chip counts and a recap of the evening's action.

It was all over by the turn on a runout of , with Murzyn picking up a full house to collect the pot and the knockout.
"Nice hand," gestured a tablemate.
"Thank you," responded Murzyn. "Some run good. I needed that!"
With the elimination, 43 players now remain with 18 minutes remaining in Level 13. Three more eliminations or the conclusion of the level will bring about the end of play on Day 1a.

Anthony Scarborough opened to 6,500 in middle position and was three-bet to 16,000 by the player on the button. Scarborough announced he was all in, effectively four-bet jamming for his opponent's 50K total.
"Let's gamble," said the player on the button after 15 seconds or so. He threw in his chips and tabled , with Scarborough simultaneously showing .
"Nice hand," the player on the button added. The flop left the all-in player in need of perfect-perfect to quads, which became an impossibility after the turn . The river completed the runout and Scarborough collected the elimination.
Also eliminated on the same table moments earlier was Lexy Nuzum, and 45 players now remain.
