A Day of Celebration

Red Carpet
Red Carpet

The $1,000,000 guaranteed event began with much pomp and circumstance as RunGood celebrated their first ever seven-figure guaranteed main event with a red carpet celebration and pre-game show streamed live on the Thunder Valley poker Twitter page.

From there it was down to business as 210 players took their seats throughout the day with 83 advancing on to Monday’s Day 2.
Eight levels were played with players having the option to re-enter once, two more bullets available Sunday for Day 1b, and a final opportunity to enter before registration closes at the start of Day 2.

Among other notables bagging up healthy stacks were RunGood Ambassadors Ray Henson (181,000) and Ben Ludlow (152,000), Andrew Moreno (169,500), and Northern California poker legend JC Tran (96,500).

Those who didn’t make it through the day but can come back again Sunday and/or Monday included RunGood Ambassadors Lexy Gavin-Mather, "Boston" Rob Mariano, Joe Stapleton, and Kris Burchfield, along with Johnnie Moreno and the top-ranked player in the 2022 GPI Female Player of the Year race, Angela Jordison.

Another Opening Flight Sunday

With one successful opening flight in the books, the second will take place Sunday at noon local time with an even bigger field expected that will send the prizepool past its $1,000,000 guarantee.

Players will again have two entries available to them throughout the day and a final buy-in before Day 2 if necessary.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for continued coverage from the beautiful Thunder Valley Casino Resort until a champion is crowned on Tuesday.

Patterson Approaching 200k After Getting Paid on River

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Tyler Patterson
Tyler Patterson

With approximately 35,000 in the pot on a completed board of {j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, after his opponent in the cutoff checked to him, Tyler Patterson bet 30,000 on the button.

After a minute or so of thought, Patterson got a call and turned over {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a runner-runner nut flush.

His opponent showed {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and tossed them into the muck as the large pot was pushed in the direction of the RunGood ambassador.

Jacobson Over 200k With Overbet Bomb on River

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Lane Jacobson
Lane Jacobson

With approximately 25,000 in the pot on a flop of {k-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades}, the small blind and a player in middle position checked to Lane jacobson in the hijack, who bet 8,000.

The small blind folded, but the middle position player called to see the {2-Spades} on the turn.

The player checked again and Jacobson bet 10,000, which again was called.

Jacobson was checked to a final time on the {5-Diamonds} river, and this time, he bombed the river, shoving a stack of orange T-5,000 chips forward that covered his opponent's roughly 100,000 chip stack.

After a couple of minutes of deliberation, Jacobson got a fold which sent the healthy pot his way as he is now among the chip leaders in the final two levels of play.

Johnnie Moreno Eliminated in Swingy Three-Way All-In

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Johnnie Vibes
Johnnie Vibes

After Joseph Ricardo opened to 1,800 in middle position, Johnnie Moreno moved all in for his last 11,800 from the hijack.

Joshua Steiner called in the cutoff, and once action folded back to Ricardo, he moved all in for his last 18,900, which Steiner also called, giving himself the chance at a double elimination.

Johnnie Moreno: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Joseph Ricardo: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Joshua Steiner: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Steiner's kings started the hand in great shape to score that double elimination, but the {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop gave Ricardo the lead.

The case {k-Hearts} on the turn however gave Steiner the lead back in the unlikeliest of fashions, but the card gave Ricardo a flush draw and Moreno a gutshot Broadway draw.

Ricardo's flush came in on the river with the {2-Hearts}, giving him more than a double up, while sending the popular vlogger and entrepreneur to the rail.

Mariano Can't Survive Any Further

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
"Boston" Rob Mariano
"Boston" Rob Mariano

"Boston" Rob Mariano's day has ended unceremoniously in Level 5, despite doubling up versus Bob Mather, then again recently with aces against his opponent's deuces.

Shortly after that, Mariano four-bet shoved ace-jack from late position into the big blind who called him with pocket queens.

The board brought no help to the RunGood ambassador and his tournament torch was snuffed out.

Trevino Puts Second Bullet at Risk

Cedrric Trevino
Cedrric Trevino

Cedrric Trevino's second bullet of the day was at risk as he put his last 9,600 into the middle from the small blind on a {9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} board with just over 22,000 in the pot.

His opponent in the big blind contemplated but ultimately folded as Trevino got his stack back near its starting point, showing his {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for an open-ended straight draw that turned into a rivered two pair as the pot was pushed his way.

"Boston Rob" Doubles Through #MoreBob; Gavin-Mather Eliminated

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
"Boston" Rob Mariano
"Boston" Rob Mariano

After a short-stacked Rob Mariano moved all in for his last 4,000 from late position, he was called by Bob Mather, who won the RunGood PLO event Friday.

Rob Mariano: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Bob Mather: {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, giving Mather a pair and an open-ended straight draw.

The {6-Clubs} on the turn eliminated fours from Mather's outs, which was good for Mariano, as the river brought the {4-Diamonds}, giving Mather his two pair, fives and fours, but Mariano's aces and sixes gave him the much-needed double-up.

Meanwhile, Mather's better half, Lexy Gavin-Mather was recently eliminated from the tournament. She'll have the opportunity to fire another bullet Sunday in Day 1b.

The Biggest RunGood Main Event Ever Kicks Off Saturday

RunGood Series Champion's Ring
RunGood Series Champion's Ring

History will be made this weekend at the beautiful Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln California, just north of Sacramento, as the RunGood Poker Series wraps up its 2022 season with the Contenders $1,000,000 Season Finale. The first time the tour has ever run a seven-figure guaranteed tournament.

The $2,500 buy-in tournament begins at noon today, and the excitement around the casino has been palpable all week as huge fields in side events and satellites have turned the Thunder Valley poker room into the epicenter of poker in California.

As it is their biggest event ever, the RunGood team has spared no expense and pulled out all the stops to make this event truly feel as big as it is, including a red-carpet pregame show starting at 11:30 a.m. local time, 30 minutes before cards go in the air for Day 1a. The pre-show will be streamed live on the Thunder Valley poker room Twitter page.

When play begins, entrants will start the day with 40,000 chips at blind levels of 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Eight 60-minute levels will be played on each of the two opening days, Saturday and Sunday, with 15-minute breaks every two levels.

Ten more 60-minute levels are scheduled for Day 2 on Monday, with Tuesday’s Day 3 seeing play continue until the largest first prize in RunGood history is awarded, along with the prestigious RunGood Contenders Series ring, and an entry into the RunGood Pro-Am later this month at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas.

One re-entry will be allowed on each of the opening flights, and before Day 2 begins on Monday, when registration closes at the start of Level 9. Players choosing to max late-reg at the start of Day 2 will still start with a generous 27 big blinds.

A final chance to get into the tournament at a discount will also take place Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. with a $400 satellite with five seats guaranteed.

Stay tuned to PokerNews, as our live reporting team is on-site to provide updates on all the action until a champion is crowned on Tuesday.
