Garles Calls Correctly; Wheeler Gets There

Tim Garles opened to 2,100 from middle position which saw one player call from the cutoff. In the small blind, Alex Wheeler three-bet to 8,500 and Garles called.

The flop came out Q♥9♥7♦ and Wheeler continued for 7,000 which Garles called.

On the turn 6♣, Wheeler moved all in for 19,000 effective and Garles called for his tournament life.

Garles' pair of twos was ahead on the queen-high board against Wheeler's ace-high, but the river A♣ gave Wheeler top pair and Garles shook his head as he walked out of the tournament area.

Dunn Extracts Value

A player in late position raised to 2,000 which saw one player in the hijack call, Renato Spahiu call in the small blind and Kaleb Dunn call in the big blind.

On a J♥5♠9♠ flop, action checked through to the turn of 8♥ which saw action check to Dunn who bet 3,300 which only the late position player call.

On the river K♠ Dunn bet 1,000 and his opponent called while Dunn turned over J♣10♦. His opponent nodded and tossed his hand into the muck.

Phan Flops The Nuts; Crews Gone

With the under the gun player raising to 1,800, action folded to Donnie Phan who three-bet to 3,800 with action folding back to the initial raiser who called.

The flop of K♣8♣3♣ which both players checked to the 9♥ turn where the initial raiser continued for 6,000 which Phan called.

The river rolled out a 6♥ and the under the gun player bet 10,000 which saw Phan move all in for 18,600 which his opponent called.

Phan had flopped the nut flush and was able to double up fully through his opponent in the early goings of the tournament.

At another table, Jason Crews was eliminated from the tournament.

Hughes Does Not Believe

Action was picked up on the turn between Daniel Hughes on the button and another player in middle position.

The board read 3♦J♦A♠9♥ and the middle position player bet 3,800 which Hughes called.

On the 4♣ river, the middle position player bet 7,300 and Hughes beat him into the pot with the call. The opponent turned over K♦10♣ for a missed gutshot straight draw. Hughes turned over Q♣J♣ for jacks with a queen kicker and the RGPS ring winner took down the pot.

Hometown Hero Duster Ellis Takes Home First RGPS for $4,497 After Deal!

Duster Ellis, Champion of The $250 Opener Event

The first event of The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint was the $250 Opener Event, which drew out 115 entrants to play. The prize pool grew to $23,000 and saw 15 players find their way to a cash.

The event eventually came down to just three players, being Ryan Phan, Jeremy Hendricks and Duster Ellis. After some deal talks, Ellis was the one holding the ring in a near even chop between himself, Phan and Hendricks.

Ellis has become a staple of The RunGood Poker series over the past few years he has played it. Making deep runs at many stops, and amassing 24 prior cashes in events all around the country. “It feels good to get the monkey off my back,” Ellis said when referring to the new jewelry he took home after the tournament “so many close calls and it feels good to take one down.
