It was a much busier day inside the Champions Club Texas for Day 1b of the 2026 RunGood Golden Expedition Houston $600 Main Event. Boasting a hefty $250,000 guaranteed prize pool to play for, a lot more players made their way through the doors with a total of 98 entries recorded for this starting flight.
Pulling away from the field once the late registration period finished, Matthew Schumacher took control and dominated his competition en route to bagging a massive stack of 1,480,000 chips for Day 2 on Sunday. With only a few tournament cashes under his belt, and none since 2023, Schumacher is hoping for a deep run on Sunday in order to secure the largest tournament score of his poker career.
He wasn't the only player to reach the seven-figure mark on Day 1b. George Beck also had a very successful day on the felt and closed out strong by putting 1,015,000 chips into his bag. Both players were responsible for many of the eliminations down the stretch which brought the field down to the required nine players to conclude this flight.

The field started a lot stronger for the earlier start time on Day 1b, compared to Day 1a, which ran until the early hours of the morning. A total of 98 entries were tallied for this flight, resulting in 12 places getting paid, nine of which would advance to Day 2 on Sunday.
Hand-for-hand play began with just 13 players left and it was Roberto Romero who found himself at risk qith pocket queens. They were not match for the ace-king of Matthew Bray who found a king on the turn. The next three players to be eliminated would each record a min-cash of $920 and would have the opportunity to play another flight in order to advance to Day 2.
Those payouts would belong to Troy Zimmerman, Linh Dang, and the tenth-place finisher Tony Sivorakoune. It was Bray who claimed the last knockout of the night with ace-king once again, sending Sivorakoune to the rail. The remaining nine players were elated to be moving on to Sunday after another long day at the poker tables.
Day 1c began at 6 p.m. but the levels were shortened to 20 minutes throughout in order to reach a finish at a more reasonable time. The same schedule will take place tomorrow with Day 1d kicking off at 11 a.m. local time and Day 1e starting at 6 p.m. You can find the results for the evening flights on the RunGood Rewards app.
The PokerNews reporting team will be back tomorrow to bring you coverage from Day 1d before concluding with Day 2 on championship Sunday.
Matthew Bray raised to 40,000 from under the gun and Tony Sivorakoune pushed all in for his last 140,000 chips on the button. The blinds folded and Bray quickly called it off.
Tony Sivorakoune: A♦9♦
Matthew Bray: A♥K♣
The flop of J♥J♣5♣ provided some chop outs for Sivorakoune. However, the 2♠ and K♥ runout was not going to cut it as he became the last elimination of Day 1b. The remaining nine players will now bag up their chips and return for Day 2 on Sunday.
Stay tuned for a full list of chip counts and a recap of the day's action.
George Beck raised to 40,000 from under the gun and Troy Zimmerman shipped all in for 200,000 on the button. The blinds quickly folded and Beck instantly called.
Troy Zimmerman: A♥J♦
George Beck: K♥K♣
Beck was firmly in the lead and the flop of K♦9♥9♣ left no doubt as he improved to a full house. The J♣ on the turn left Zimmerman drawing dead to the 9♠ on the river.
Level: 18
Blinds: 10,000/20,000
Ante: 20,000
Matthew Bray raised to 30,000 in early position and Roberto Romero jammed all in for 140,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Bray quickly called to put Romero at risk.
Roberto Romero: Q♥Q♣
Matthew Bray: A♣K♠
It was a classic coin flip and the flop of 7♣6♥3♦ left Romero in the lead with his pocket queens. However, the K♦ on the turn was exactly what Bray was looking for and the 3♠ on the river left Romero on the outside looking in.
The field has quickly dropped to just 13 players and the remaining two tables will now be hand-for-hand on the money bubble.
Matthew Schumacher has been on a tear since late registration closed and he wasn't about to slow down. Duc Le got his stack of around 300,000 chips in the middle and found himself up against the chip leader.
Duc Le: A♥Q♦
Matthew Schumacher: J♣J♦
It was a coin flip but the K♦9♦2♣8♥6♠ runout favored Schumacher with the pocket pair, sending Le home before the money.
