Blair Hinkle assumed his usual spot atop the leaderboard on Day 1c of the RunGood Poker Series Golden Expedition St. Louis $800 Main Event.

Hinkle, already with four RunGood Main Event championship rings on his career resume, bagged up 636,000 as 16 players survived the third starting flight. The RunGood ambassador scored two knockouts with ace-king, first hitting a straight against Aaron Drummond, and then busting Tristan Jappa near the bubble. Hinkle’s most recent Main Event title came in 2024, and he was also runner-up in the RGPS Council Bluffs Main Event earlier this year. He’s already come close to claiming another ring this week, finishing second in the PokerNews PokerStack event.

Peter Walsh ended up in second place after a hand he won’t soon forget. Walsh moved all in for 242,000 on the river against Jappa and turned over a flopped royal flush to win the biggest pot of the night on his way to 594,000. Cody Carlin (550,000), Nick Willie (547,000), and Justin Coliny (536,000) rounded out the top five.

A total of 132 players came to the Hollywood Casino to spend their Saturday afternoon chasing the ring and a share of the $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. Among those to fall short of their goal were Tyler Breeding, Ben Miller, Javier Terrazas, Paul Fehlig, Michael Estes, and RunGood ambassador Angela Jordison.

The field currently stands at 297 entries through three starting flights. The fourth and final flight is ongoing with 103 entries and late registration open for around another hour.

The 36 qualifiers from the first three flights will be joined by survivors from Day 1d when Day 2 begins tomorrow at noon local time. The action picks up at the earliest finishing time from one of the flights. Day 1c went just a few minutes longer than Day 1b did yesterday, which finished with 10 minutes remaining in Level 14 with blinds of 3,000/6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante.

A champion will be crowned tomorrow, and PokerNews will be back following all the action and providing live updates from the event's final day.

Yushan Shi Bubbles Day 1c

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Yushan Shi

On just the second hand of the money bubble, Zhenglun Wu raised to 20,000 in early position and Yushan Shi called in the big blind.

Wu continued for 25,000 on the 10♠7♣5♣ flop, and Shi called. Wu then moved all in on the A♦ turn, and Shi snap-called for 100,000.

Shi turned over A♠10♥ for top two pair, but Wu had flopped a set with 10♦10♣. Shi needed an ace to stay alive, but he missed the 3♥ river and was eliminated on the money bubble.

The remaining 16 players are bagging up their chips for the night.

Jappa Falls to Hinkle; Carlin Makes Big Fold to SC

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Tristan Jappa
Tristan Jappa

Cody Carlin raised to 12,000 under the gun before SC three-bet to 35,000 in the hijack. Carlin then four-bet to 100,000, and SC moved all in for 380,000. Carlin instantly threw Q♥Q♦ into the muck, and SC showed him A♥A♦ as he took the pot.

At the other table, Tristan Jappa shoved for 96,000 in middle position and Blair Hinkle reshoved in the small blind to chase away the rest of the table.

Tristan Jappa: A♠10♥ All in
Blair Hinkle: A♣K♥

Both players hit top pair on the A♦6♦9♠ flop, while the K♦ turn gave Hinkle two pair to leave Jappa drawing dead. The river was the 2♦, and Jappa was sent to the rail.

With 17 players remaining, action is going hand-for-hand until there is one more elimination.

Wu Takes Three-Way Pot

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Zhenglun Wu raised to 12,000 under the gun and was called by Jon Stanfield in middle position and Yushan Shi on the button.

Action checked to Shi on the A♣Q♣6♣ flop, and he bet 20,000. Only Wu called.

Shi and Wu checked down the 2♥ turn and 6♦ river, and Wu turned over A♠K♥ for top pair to win the pot.

Willie Flops Dirnberger Dead

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Nick Willie
Nick Willie

Brandon Dirnberger moved all in for 60,000 from the big blind and Nick Willie put him at risk under the gun.

Brandon Dirnberger: K♠J♥ All in
Nick Willie: A♥3♥

Any hope Dirnberger had of staying alive in the tournament were virtually extinguished when the flop brought 4♦2♣5♥ to give Willie a straight. The rest of the board ran out J♣7♥, and Dirnberger busted three spots off the money.
