The first flight of the RGPS Passport $300 PokerNews PowerStack is in the books as a total of 99 entries threw their hat in the ring to try and advance to Day 2 and get a slice of the $100,000 guarantee at Palace Poker in Grand Prairie, Texas.
12 players were permitted to advance from Day 1a. Back-to-back hands late proved to be a decisive factor for Isaac Ovalle (798,000), who led all comers with the top stack during the opening flight. Taylor Carlat (357,000) and Joe Cho (312,000) followed in second and third in chips.

Ovalle went from an above-average stack to the biggest stack from Day 1a in a hurry. He battled it out with Fuat Temiz, who led most of Day 1a, to eliminate him in a sudden turn of events that left Ovalle a bit speechless as he recounted to PokerNews following his chip-leading session.
“I know that he is a wonky, wild, aggressive player. He got the best of me earlier,” Ovalle said. “I’m not going anywhere, especially on the bubble.”
Ovalle managed to spike a straight on the river to crack Temiz’s set of sevens. Ovalle then dealt the knockout blow on the very next hand when he shoved on the flop with pocket kings and was called by queen high to eliminate Temiz and end Day 1a.
“It’s just a blur, those two hands. I’m just on cloud nine,” Ovalle said. “I was just thinking about Day 2 at that point.”
Dusti Smith ( 272,000) finished fourth in chips and also advanced to Day 2. Smith has amassed over $1.5 million in earnings, according to The Hendon Mob. Smith is chasing her first RGPS ring as she enters Day 2 with a chance to win her first RunGood hardware.
Robert Champion (170,000) advanced to Day 2 and will aim to add to his nearly half a million in career earnings. Like Smith, Champion is pursuing his first RGPS title.
Day 1b is currently underway with 96 entries and 66 remaining at the time of this writing. Check back here for tomorrow’s introduction to see the final results and the top stacks from Day 1b.

Isaac Ovalle and Fuat Temiz clashed in back-to-back hands that had drastic ramifications for both players.
The first hand was the most costly for Temiz. The board read 7♠J♥2♠ with approximately 25,000 in the middle. Ovalle bet 25,000 and was called by Temiz.
The 9♥ turn led to a bet of 48,000 from Ovalle. Temiz raised to 100,000 and was called by Ovalle.
Ovalle shoved on the 8♦ river for 215,000. Temiz took some time before he put in the call.
Ovalle showed J♠10♠ for a straight, much to the disappointment of Temiz, who showed 7♦7♥.
This left Temiz with roughly 50,000.
On the next hand, they battled again after Ovalle opened to 23,000 from the hijack and was called by Temiz in the cutoff.
The flop came 7♠8♦3♠ before Ovalle shipped it. Temiz called to be at risk.
Fuat Temiz: Q♣9♠
Isaac Ovalle: K♦K♠
Ovalle was two cards away from securing the knockout, and the 2♣ turn sealed the deal as the meaningless 9♣ hit the river to knockout Temiz, who was a frontrunner into the final level of Day 1a.

There was a series of limps before Isaac Ovalle made it 40,000 from the small blind. The big blind shoved and was called by Ovalle to be at risk.
Opponent: K♣10♠
Isaac Ovalle: A♣K♥
Ovalle was in a good position to score the knockout, and the runout didn't offer any drama as it came J♣9♠J♦3♣2♦ to secure the elimination and get one step closer to bagging on Day 1a.

Scott Allred opened to 12,000 from the cutoff and was called on the button. "Action" Ashley Hine shoved for 78,000 from the big blind and was called by Allred to be at risk as the button folded.
Ashley Hine: A♦J♣
Scott Allred: A♥Q♥
Hine needed help, and the flop complied as it came 7♥5♠J♦ to give Hine the lead.
The 6♥ gave Allred a flush draw as Hine's tournament life hung in the balance.
The 5♥ river gave Allred a flush to eliminate Hine.

Isaac Ovalle raised to 15,000 from middle position and was called by Fuat Temiz from the cutoff.
Ovalle checked the 9♠2♦5♣ flop and Temiz bet 24,000. Ovalle called.
Both players checked through the J♣ turn and the 8♠ river to go to a showdown.
Ovalle showed K♦Q♠ for king high, but it was no good as Temiz tabled K♥9♣ for a pair of nines to claim the pot.
