The 2023 $1,050 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker Medium Main Event has crowned a champion. Out of the 4,206 entries that were made throughout the tournament, it was none other than the Latvian player that goes by "rolandinjo" that was the ultimate victor. They bested Croatia's"moffo13" heads up and took home the trophy. No deal was made at any point on the final table, which meant that "rolandinjo" took home the gargantuan first-place prize of $600,639.75 in full. Meanwhile, "moffo13" had to settle for a not-too-shabby $424,714.72 themself.

The bronze medal went to Gabriel "aaurelio" Moura who received a payday of $300,318.49, while Day 3 chip leader Vicente "vicenfish" Delgado finished in what must have been a disappointing sixth place for $106,178.78.

Early Final Table Highlights

At the start of play, it was "FAPTOBbIY_BACK" who was the absolute short stack. Indeed, they would be the first to fall on the final table of nine, as their last three big blinds could not beat Delgado's pocket sevens nor "moffo13"s ace-king high in a three-way affair.

"IReadB00ks" would follow them to the rail not long after, when they three-bet pocket sevens all-in over an open from chip leader Delgado, but could not crack the queens which "bombon73" woke up with in the big blind. "bombon73" then went on to score the final knock-out of the first level as well, when 2ndOnly2God shoved their ace-deuce into ace-king in a blind-on-blind affair.

Play then went on for a while six-handed, during which "rolandinjo" inched closer and closer to the chip lead, eventually winning a big pot with pocket aces to officially capture it. However, they really sprung ahead of their competitors when they made a flush on the turn in a pot against Delgado and saw their river bet being paid off.

Distaster Stikes for Delgado

Afterward, Delgado was still second in chips when six-handed play continued for nearly two hours from the last bust-out. However, he would be the next to fall when "rolandinjo" four-bet shoved king-jack into the ace-king of Delgado, creating a monstrous 166 million chip lead pot. It was looking like Delgado would retake the chip lead, but the river fell a jack on an otherwise blank board, and "rolandinjo"s three-outer had hit. They amassed an impressive lead of nearly six times the stack of the closest contender, while Delgado saw his hopes and dreams crushed by the deck.

Delgado's Exit
Delgado's Exit

Not long after, the short-stacked "Bretera" was eliminated from the Main Event as well, when their ace-seven failed to beat the ace-king of Moura. It then would take another hour or so before the next player left the tournament, when "rolandinjo" extended their chip lead by busting "bombon73". "rolandinjo"s ace-seven suited made a flush against the king-jack of "bombon73" in a preflop all-in, and that spelled the end for the Ukranian.

"rolandinjo" Uses Chip Lead to Take It Home

Down to three players, Moura would be the last player to not make the heads up, as his king-four could not win the flip against "moffo13"s pocket deuces. Thus, it was Latvia versus Croatia for the title, trophy, and a lot of money.

"rolandinjo" started the heads up with more than three times the chips of his opponent, and it never got really close. After losing a few small pots, "moffo13" was down to less than fifteen big blinds. They tried to increase that by barreling three streets in a limped pot with jack-high, however, "rolandinjo" sniffed out the bluff and made the call with second pair.

The Final Hand of the Tournament

In that fashion, "rolandinjo" captured the title of SCOOP Main Event Champion. Celebrations will be had over at Latvia, but for PokerNews it spells the end of the coverage of this SCOOP.

"moffo13" limped their button and "rolandinjo" checked the big blind. On 587, "rolandinjo" checked and "moffo13" made the minimum bet of 4,000,000, which "rolandinjo" called.

The Q turn graced the felt and "moffo13" now bet a significant 12,000,000 chips after another check from "rolandinjo". The latter was again present with a call, and the 3 river rolled off.

"moffo13" shoved his 38,127,525 remaining chips in the middle after "rolandinjo" checked for the third time and "rolandinjo" made a quick call.

It would be the final hand of the tournament, as "moffo13" could only show a failed bluff with his J6. "rolandinjo" made second pair with his J8 and called down to claim the victory.

"moffo13" would see $424,714.72 added to their balance, while "ronaldinjo" is the champion of the 2023 $1,050 Spring Championship of Online Poker Main Event.

Stay tuned for a full recap of the day.

In the most significant heads up pot so far, "moffo13" limped in from the button and "rolandinjo" checked his big blind. The flop of 9QJ saw "rolandinjo" check-call a 3,500,000 minbet from "moffo13" before the 9 turn was dealt.

"rolandinjo" now took the betting lead with a stab of 5,066,000. However, "moffo13" remained the latest aggressor when they made a raise to 14,350,000. "rolandinjo" called and the 3 river appeared.

"rolandinjo" now reverted to checking and "moffo13" put out a small bet of 10,900,000. After a quick think, "rolandinjo" made the call and saw that his 92 was victorious against "moffo13"s QJ.

"rolandinjo" added some more chips to his lead and "moffo13" was down to 21 big blinds.

"moffo13"s ducks faced little resistance on the 3710Q3 runout and Moura would be the final player eliminated before the heads up began.

The $300,318.49 payday he received for his efforts should comfort him somewhat, however.

"moffo13" Doubles Through "bombon73", Who Then Does the Reverse

Level 52 : Blinds 1,500,000/3,000,000, 375,000 ante

"bombon73" went all-in from the small blind once it was their turn to act, covering "moffo13"s stack of 32,862,143 chips. "moffo13" made the call and once more someone was at risk during four-handed play.

"moffo13": A10
"bombon73": 108

"moffo13" dominated his opponent's hand, and the 64A flop meant that they would take a commanding lead. The 10 turn brought them two pair, which meant they secured the pot already. The 2 was dealt as the ceremonious river and "moffo13" doubled up while "bombon73" was left with just over three big blinds.

Those three big blinds then went in the very next hand when they jammed from the button. "moffo13" looked them up again from the small blind, while "rolandinjo" folded the big.

"bombon73": K8
"moffo13": A6

The flop of AK9 was a sweaty one, bringing a pair for either player. However, the 8 turn saw "bombon73" be the only one to make two pair, and the 10 was a blank river for both players.

Thus, they traded blows as the eliminations remain absent so far four-handed.

Moura's Stack Increases

Level 52 : Blinds 1,500,000/3,000,000, 375,000 ante

The action folded to Gabriel "aaurelio" Moura in the small blind and he limped in. "bombon73" then made it 8,100,000 to go from the big blind and Moura called.

Moura check-called "bombon73"s 4,425,000 continuation-bet on the QKJ flop before the 3turn was checked by both players. Moura then led for 21,499,990 on the 4 river and "bombon73" made a quick fold.

Moura now has double the chips of the two short stacks as he is looking to solidify his second place on the leaderboard.
