Day 1 of the 2023 $1,050 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Medium Main Event is in the books and there was plenty of action to be had. There were 3,845 entries throughout the day, of which 1,278 remained when play had concluded after 16 levels. There is still a bit of overlay as the prize pool stands at the guaranteed $4,000,000 so far, but late registration is still open until the start of Day 2, and many players are expected to make use of that option.

When the dust settled, only one player could end up on top of the leaderboard, and it ended up being "Zabiggesmaj" from Canada. They bagged 1,469,772 chips, worth almost 250 big blinds when play resumes. "Neocortex_UA" from Ukraine is trailing closely with a stack of 1,383,534, while Brazil's "Eller77" completes the international top three.

The most recognizable name in the top ten chip counts is that of Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang. The controversial German high roller, playing from the United Kingdom, bagged an impressive 1,067,360, landing him in 6th place on the leaderboard. Roman "RomeOpro" Romanovsky is also one of the ten players who have take more than a million chips into Day 2, occupying the 7th place with 1,047,595.

Of course, many PokerStars Ambassadors also tried their luck in this version of the Main Event. Felix "xflixx" Schneiders fared the best out of all of them, bagging a healthy stack of 529,699 for Day 2. Benjamin "Spraggy" Spragg is on his colleague's heels with a stack of 523,024, while Sam "SamSquid" Grafton and Alejandro "[Papo]AR" Lococo also take over 400,000 chips into Day 2.

The likes of Ramon "RamonColillas" Colillas (326,994), Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis (220,891), and Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot (168,950) also found their way to Day 2. In fact, the only "Red Spade" to try and fall is Fintan "easywithaces" Hand, who fired one bullet and thus still has an option to make a reappearance before late registration closes.

Many online poker legends showed up throughout the day, and among those who will return with a big stack for Day 2 are Niklas "Lena900" Astedt (828,456), Claas "SsicK_OnE" Segebrecht (769,038), and Rui "RuiNF" Ferreira (536,903). Meanwhile, the likes of Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson (139,585), Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph (160,218), and Marius "DEX888" Gierse (167,355) will have to settle for a below-average stack.

Play will resume on May 29th at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Day 2 will start with blinds of 3,000/6,000 with an ante of 750. Those who buy in before the start of play will get 100,000 chips to spin up, and a long day is ahead of those who succeed to do so, as the field is scheduled to play down to 80 remaining players.

PokerNews will of course be present to deliver all of the action from one of the biggest online poker tournaments of the year live as it happens, so stay tuned tomorrow for all the big hands from your favorite players.

Niklas Åstedt

Niklas "Lena900" Astedt opened from under the gun to 11,000 and both blinds "MR//MAFFIA777" and "Spotzilla666" made the calls.

The 9K4 saw Astedt fire 12,333 after two checks, after which both players obliged again with calls. On the 10 turn, Astedt increased his sizing to 37,187, and this time only "MR//MAFFIA777" was present with a call.

The 2 river saw Astedt bet one more time after a third check from "MR//MAFFIA777". This time, he went all-in, covering his opponent's 139,942 remaining chips.

"MR//MAFFIA777" quickly folded, and Astedt could add some more chips to his seemingly ever-growing pile.

The action then folded around to Marius "DEX888" Gierse in the big blind, who put out a three-bet to 45,000. Colillas and "rany01" folded, but Rocha back-raised all-in for 163,944. Gierse made the call and they were off to the races.

Lucas "Rochinha2011" Rocha: 99
Marius "DEX888" Gierse: J10

No jacks or tens to be had for Gierse on the K426Q runout, and Rocha scored a big double-up. Gierse, on the other hand, was left with under twenty big blinds.

Vasylchenko Victorious in Battle of the Big Stacks

Level 15 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The action folded to Sergi "srxakgirona" Reixach on the button, who made it 8,000 to go. Oleg "Fukuruku" Vasylchenko sat in the small blind and flat called and the two went heads up to the flop.

On 44Q, Vasylchenko checked before Reixach bet 4,640 chips. Vasylchenko obliged with a call and the 2 turn was dealt.

Vasylchenko checked again and Reixach now bet a more bulky 21,400. However, Vasylchenko came up with a raise to 66,000. Reixach now made the call and a fourth club fell on the 3 river.

The card did not scare Vasylchenko, as he continued his aggression with a bet of 103,811. Reixach had seen enough and folded his cards, leaving himself well over 100 big blinds to play with
